James Michael "Mike" Sheffield

Deepest condolences. So many fond memories from my childhood. Thoughts and prayers for the family.

Coach Sheffield made such a positive impact on my life. As a high school student, uncertain about my future he always provided such practical life advice that I still think about often. Some kind of funny, like every time I look at a thermostat I think about coach telling me how he wanted to save money so he would keep it really high during summer and low during winter. Or when pressing the gas to treat the pedal like an egg is underneath. We also had a great connection over the old Carraway...

I had the privilege of meeting Coach Sheffield while I was coaching with his son, Zach, several years ago. Coach Sheffield had a passion for his athletes that was not based on their physical talent, but rather focused on their eternal destination and development as young men and women for Christ.

Watching him coach a handful of athletes at an indoor track meet was a real pleasure. Most of those kids had never stepped foot on an indoor track, and I'm pretty sure some didn't know...

Mike was the nicest person . Always friendly and had time to talk to you. Will always remember his kindness at Carraway! Prayers for the family .

Mr. Sheffield was a very nice Christian Man and instructor at Virginia College.

Mike was about 10 years older than I . My sister went to AHS with Mike he was o e heck of an Athlete . He was kind of an idol to me .

A smile that would captivate me as a new art teacher, an encouraging personality and quiet soul. His strength and presence will be missed by me, the newcomer. I won’t forget his kindness and contribution. Forever grateful for the few years I was privileged to have known him. Rest In Peace, until our ‘Faith Family,’ join in Heaven some day.
