Rest in peace principal Slemp

Jim was my middle school principal at Roosevelt Middle School. I spent lots of time with Jim for reasons that were not positive, Jim spent a lot of time with me for reasons that were. In a world of jaded and cynical school administrators and one-size-fits-all disciplinarians, Jim was a caring, engaged, and committed principal who kept trying no matter how pointless I must have made it all seem. I find myself commenting here today after using some of his words of wisdom with a client this week...

Mr Slemp was one of the few teachers in my years of being educated that made me feel he was truly interested in educating me. Not just with the ABCs he was taught to teach but Mr Slemp always asked questions about our lives and stood up for our misgivings. He will always be to me a very solid soul in a time I needed that...RIP my friend

RIP Jim. I learned a lot from you.

Jim was the best supervisor ever..in addition to giving direction, he took the time to help me grow as an employee and individual. His passion for kids and education was unmatched. I am so lucky to have known him and worked with and for him. He will always be fondly remembered. My thoughts go to his kids and partner. He will be always remembers and missed.

Very sad, Jim was a great man, as a kid in middle school trying to find your way he was someone you could talk to anytime. You will be missed old friend.

I had the privilege of being one of the classified representatives on the district benefits board that Jim was a member of. What a great individual and great educator. My thoughts go out to his family.

Mr. Slemp was the principal of my high school from 9th-11th grade, when he retired. He was an amazing educator and person. He cared about his students and he knew our names. In a school of 1500+ that was meaningful to many.

Your passion for education and people will not be forgotten. Thank you for making our community a better place by being a part of it.

Condolences to family and friends. I had the privilege of working with Jim in EUgene. He was one of the finest educators I.ve ever known, who made an tremendous difference in the lives of students and educators whose lives he touched. His passing is very sad and real loss to all who knew him
