Jim Souza was born October 15,1925 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He lived 98 wonderful years before passing on July 7, 2024 in Scottsdale, Ariz. Growing up in Hawaii, one of twelve children, he loved his big family, walking to the beach and hiking Punchbowl Crater. At age 16, Jim watched the bombing of...

Not sure what to say?

Always a happy, brilliant, smile with sparkling eyes! Teasing, joking, loving! Uncle Jimmy is with us always!

Souza family - I was very sorry and saddened to hear of Jim´s passing. I have so many fond and special memories of your husband, Dad and Grandfather. I was the attendance secretary at Whitford for 18 years and we always had such fun chats when he would "occasionally" come by the staff room. I also always enjoyed seeing you Dagny when you and Jim attended the Whitford get togethers. Sending my love and caring thoughts. Karen Johansen

Coach Souza played an instrumental role in my life. Coach recommended me as a recruit to his friend, head coach Koko Santos at Hawaii Loa College. As a result, I spent my college years and years after on the beautiful island of Oahu. That opportunity would likely not have presented itself if not for Coach. I am truly grateful. I have fond memories of our teams at Whitford in particular Varsity football. He was a great coach and a better example of the kind of man we should all want to grow up...

I have the fondest memories of Coach, but more than that he was a mentor. Coach Souza made me a better B ball player (class of 65). But I like to think Coach Jim coach Duke, and coach Burnett did much more then teach us a game. We were taught how to be good citizens and the value of hard work. Rest in peace gentlemen you are very much missed. Rick Everett

Jim Souza made a huge positive difference in my life at Beaverton High and many others. We are so glad he was born. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. This we pray in the mighty Name of Jesus. Amen.

My condolences to your entire extended family. I was one of Robbie's teachers at Beaverton High School and interacted with Jim on a few occasions during my eleven years teaching (1974-1985) at the BHS. I knew Jim to be a strong and loving father, teacher and coach. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Harry Vanikiotis (Mr. Van)

RIP Uncle Jimmy I was never a student or coached by my uncle Jimmy so I only know him as my kind , funny, competitive ((Whitford vs Meadow Park, Beaverton vs Sunset, OSU vs Ducks , Yankees vs Dodgers and a lot more!) BTW... the b ball games on Elm Street at the Souza house on the Souza court attracted the best of the best. Montag, Cobb, Souza´s, Spencer´s, Robbie Closs and more. Lots of fun with bragging rights on the line. But the two handed SET SHOT from the middle of the street that...

I'm proud to have known him. Although Coach certainly helped as much as he could, I was never the football player he thought I could be! I never knew he grew up in Hawai'i, now that I live here this hits home a bit harder.

I believe my mother, Marguerite McFarland/Rogers and Dagny Wold were friends. I think of the Wold family whenever I drive a long Willamette Blvd. I would love to see Dagny again.
