James Francis Springer

James Francis Springer, 84, of Owatonna died peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013 at the Owatonna Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 on Monday, Oct 14th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday Oct 13th at the Brick-Meger Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral on Monday at church. The rosary will be recited at 3:45 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Jim was born on May 4, 1929 in Owatonna to Casimer & Marguerite (Miller) Springer. He graduated from Owatonna High School in 1947. Jim continued his education at the Minnesota School of Business and then at Mankato State University. Jim served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He was married to Phyllis Dushek on June 30, 1956 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Owatonna. Jim worked for many years at the Owatonna post office and following retirement he owned the snack shop by the high school for several years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and was a life-member of the American Legion. Jim enjoyed boating, reading and was an avid sports fan. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Owatonna; his three children, Kevin (Tara) Springer of Naperville, IL; Gregory (Emily) Springer of Mendota Heights, MN; Sue (Rich) Gerdts of Waseca; ten grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters. Memorials are preferred to Koda Living Community, or Sacred Heart Church.
