Not sure what to say?

For the Stephens Family,
Jim (I still think of him as Dr. Stephens) was most kind and supportive of me when I was a T.A. at Marquette. I had 5 teenagers at the time, at Marquette and in high school, so I needed all the help I could get. He thought it was pretty funny that I'd hoped I'd never "have" to teach--just write and research forever. I'm glad he was right about the teaching; I love it and am still at Marquette and Mount Mary doing it. I'll miss him.

Dear Cass and Alice:

I first met your father in 1977 in a British Literature class. He helped me in the Master's Program as I began my career as a Teaching Assistant. I was able to complete my Ph.D. while raising my two young children with his help. I am now teaching at UNC-Charlotte and try to emulate his example as an instructor. He was kind, caring, smart and funny and I will miss him greatly. Verda

My condolences to you both, and to the extended family (especially his brother in South Carolina, whom I remember meeting and liking...
