I met Fr. Jim 45 years ago when he gave my first retreat. He was truly a caring and giving man who helped a lot of people in his lifetime.

I met Father Jim in the 4th floor hallway of the Denver City and County building. He was with a group of people protesting the death penalty. He was wearing a pink button that had printed on it "Why do we kill people who kill people to show people that killing people is wrong?" I admired him from that moment on. He was a kind and gentle man.

Fr. Jim was a wonderful friend. I had the pleasure of knowing him through my father, his friend since boyhood. Fr. Jim was also a regular celebrant at Ten-Thirty Catholic Community in Denver. I always looked forward to having him celebrate Mass there.
Fr. Jim will be greatly missed by me and my family. In many ways, he was like an uncle to us - always interested in our "current status" in life and always encouraging.
