My deepest condolences to the Sweatt family. I grew up knowing the Sweatt family from the time I was at Little Dudes Daycare where Mrs.Sweatt organized dance classes for us and I remembered that we rehearsed at Oliver Wendell Holmes Junior High school in the early 70´s and Dr.Sweatt was there to tend to their youngest daughter. Dr. James Sweatt was a great man of firsts and relentless in achievements. Being in his presence and looking into his eyes was an opportunity to learn more and figure out how to better impact the world around us. It was our privilege to call him Papa Sweatt, to hug him, and to laugh together. He will be missed but will also be...

I authored the book about his Uncle Heman Marion Sweatt: when I asked, and he invited me to his home, I talked to him about much of what I wanted to do. He was very supportive, but on a couple of points he said: "That´s not going to help anybody." And I knew then I needed to stop talking and listen. James Sweatt made me a better author... and a better man.

I was chief of anesthesia at Mesquite Community Hospital from '78-'03 and Dr Sweatt did many thoracic and vascular with us. My wife, Bobbie, enjoyed scrubbing for him in the OR as well. He was an excellent surgeon, had a dry sense of humor but most importantly was a class act and a true gentleman. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends. Jonathan and Bobbie Chrest
