Byles Memorial Home - New London Obituary

Groton- James "Jim" T. Sweeney, 62, of Groton, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2020 at L M Hospital.

He was born on August 1, 1957, the son of Eugene and Carolyn (Oppelt) Sweeney.

Jim was a self-employed general contractor in the area for many years. In addition to his sisters Carolyn
Brooks of Huntsville, AL and Kathleen Sweeney of St, Petersburg, FL, Jim leaves behind many wonderful
friends who loved him greatly, just as he loved them. Always joking and laughing, Jim had a smile and a
helping hand for anyone who needed one. He will be sorely missed.

Jim was predeceased by his brothers Shawn Sweeney and Dennis Sweeney.

Not sure what to say?

Remembering my brother Jim. Jim and I building our first boat from trash lumber washed ashore on a deserted beach when were were just kids. Not seaworthy of course, but we had fun. Jim, with the twinkle in his eye, making jokes and gently teasing. Good naturedly losing to me once again in tennis, but always eager to challenge me again, sure he would beat me the next time, and he did come close. Jim taking us out on his beloved boat to his favorite island to explore and enjoy a summers's day,...

Jim will be greatly missed by us. He was a friend for over 30 years which started when he put an addition on our home. Over the years the friendship continued to grow as we stayed in touch. Jim had a remarkable gift for gab, a keen and creative eye for construction and was always willing to lend a helping hand with projects. We will miss his periodic calls and hearing his good stories and his sense of humor. Thanks for the memories my friend.
Love Don and Cathy

Jim was the friendliest guy l know. He would do whatever he could to help you. Went out of his way to make sure everything was good with me. I surley miss him.

Finding words is difficult when your heart is breaking and you're riding an emotional roller coaster. Jim was part of my life for over 20 years and we shared many good times together... motorcycle rides, shooting pool, boating and just spending time together talking and laughing. I'm heartbroken with his passing and miss him dearly. I'll always be his little red-haired girl... ❤
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. Love you always Jim! ❤ RIP!
