Not sure what to say?

Those many who knew Jimmy Tarrant as a coach and friend could fill many, many pages of stories. Indelible memories are stored in many minds of "times with Coach".

I met Coach Tarrant from Dave Jones) State Farm agent in East Lake(Dave went to Phillps) and they always talked about the game ball(which Dave had received) and he was always friendly and smiling.Prayers go out to his family.

You shall always live in the memories of those who knew you as coach of Phillips High, Birmingham, AL Your family has my deepest sympathy.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Mrs. Tarrant and all of your family. I warmly remember the kind gentleman who shook my hand when I graduated from Huffman in 1975. And I also remember your kind counsel through the years. My father was your good friend and colleague too (Ollie Hudson). I pray that God will comfort each of you in this difficult time.

Mr. Tarrant hired me in 1968 as a first year teacher at Huffman High. I had just graduated from college and was scared to death. He took me under his wing and helped me tremendously as a mentor and as a friend. I taught for 25 years, 17 of which were at Huffman. Of all of the Principals for whom I have worked, Mr. Tarrant was the one I will always remember as being the best. He was a true leader and a great man. Huffman was never quite the same after he retired.

My thoughts...

I owe Coach Tarrant so much; if not for him I would have never finished high school. He was an inspiration to me and others who had the wonderful opportunity of knowing him and his family. Thanks Coach. Love, Gloria Moore Schneider

Bob, I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. My brother Fred called me last night with the sad news. I remember how kind he was to me when we were kids. Your family is in my prayers.

Having spent my formative years growing up in Trussvile, I got to experience first hand Mr. Tarrant's devotion to the community as well as his family. He helped provide a decent field for us to play Little League and raised a wonderful family as well. Hard work by people like Mr. Tarrant made Trussville the city it is today. My condolences and prayers are with the family.

I was part of that first Bank's graduating class.Coach Tarrant was a fine man and a significant part of the Banks legacies. It was extremely propitious and timely being able to enjoy and spend time with him (both my Mom and myself)in the old Banks gym a few years back(the Banks athletes re union). He still had that inner strength. He was a man for the times with an enduring image of resolute empathetic purpose and self resolve. He was a role model for all of us; especially for those who...
