James S. Thorp

I was a student in ECE when Jim first became a professor and like most of my fellow students Jim inspired me to work hard in the field and produce results that could benefit society. He would becoime my thesis advisor for my Master's degree and encouraged me to continue on for a PhD. We stayed in touch and years later when my children began their undergraduate program at Cornell he convinced me to return to Cornell and teach. Jim was a great researcher and a very honorable person. He was honest and always willing to help. His manners were impeccable, something that is not seen often nowadays. RIP Jim.
