James R. Tinney, 84 of Pen Argyl, passed away, Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at his residence. He and his wife, Dena (Uliana) celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on October 10th. Born: Born in Pen Argyl, February 22, 1929, he was the son of the late Frank and Ellen (Shirley) Tinney. Personal: He had a distinguished career in banking spanning over four decades. Beginning as a teller with the Pen Argyl National Bank, he became its President in 1972. In 1986 PANB became affiliated with Fulton Financial and the organization successfully merged PANB with Lafayette Trust in Easton, PA and he then served as Chief Executive Officer of Lafayette Bank and Chairman of its Board of Directors until his retirement in 1999. He also served as a director of Fulton Financial Corporation from 1986 until 1993. Jim was a 1947 graduate of Pen Argyl High School where he excelled both academically and athletically. He served in the US Army and was a graduate of Churchman's Business College. Memberships: He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on church council, the Northampton County Bankers Association, American Bankers Association, Pen Argyl Lodge #594 F&AM, Charles Nelson Lodge Post #502 of the American Legion and was a founding member of the Pen Argyl Green and White Youth Association. Additionally, he was a member of the Northampton County Industrial Authority, served on the Pen Argyl School Board, Northampton County Community College Authority Board and the Slate Belt Medical Center Board of Directors. Jim was involved in numerous civic and community organizations. An avid golfer, he previously held memberships in Northampton County Country Club and The Meadows Country Club of Sarasota, Florida where he spent his winters following retirement. Survivors: In addition to his wife Dena, he is survived by a son Rob and his wife Wendy of Pen Argyl, a daughter, Susan and her husband Steven Goffredo of Bangor. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Paige Tinney, Eric Tinney, Dr. Lindsay Goffredo Hughes, Steven Andrew Goffredo, Katie Goffredo Dougherty, Kristina Goffredo Boccuti, J. Nico Goffredo, three great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jackson, Parker Hughes. He was predeceased by a grandson, Patrick Robert Tinney and a brother Donald. Services: Funeral services will be held, Sunday, November 3, 2013, at 2 PM at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church 12 N. Westbrook Avenue, Pen Argyl. There will be a visitation, Saturday, from 4 until 7 PM at the Guerro & Ruggiero Funeral Home, www.ruggierofuneralhome.com, 126 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Pen Argyl and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in St. Elizabeth's Cemetery, Pen Argyl. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered to: St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 12 N. Westbrook Avenue, Pen Argyl, PA 18072.

Dena and Family - So sorry to hear of Jimmy's passing. I graduated from school a year ahead of him. I also remember you, but I don't know if you remember me. My maiden name was Amy, and I lived on W. Main St., a few houses from Tommy Lobb's garage.
