Not sure what to say?

Dear Jody, Lonnie, Jimmy and Jane,
I was very disappointed at not being able to make Jim's funeral. He has always been a special uncle to me and a special big brother to my dad. He embodied the true spirit of the "Greatest Generation"- sacrifice, selflessness, generosity and courage. The world is a much better place because of the contributions of Jim Torrey.
We can all be comforted by the fact that Jim is now reunited with the love of his life-Hetty, who has been waiting...

Dear Lonnie, Jody and Jane,

I'm so sorry to hear of Uncle Jim's death. He was a wonderful man and I admired him so much. I value the memories of him and Aunt Hetty from 'Sconset days: playing tennis, going to the beach, visiting the "new" house on and the stories Jim used to tell of early family outings of Grand Jo and Granny. I shall miss him. Love to you all.

Uncle Jim was a wonderful part of my Sconset experience. I can remember get togethers at the South shore for family beach time -cousins sharing stories and personal experiences- making connections that have lasted all these years... Uncle JIm was so personable ,always taking an interest if what I was doing and keeping me updated on all the other family members. He also represented a generation for whom there are not many left. The last connections to my grandmother and Grand Jo -three...

Jim and Hetty were such excellent hosts to us when we spent 2 days at their Nantucket home several years ago. They put both of us to shucking scallops within minutes of our arrival. Certainly a new experience for folks from Oklahoma. Lonnie and Phil and all the Torrey family, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Both Jim and Hetty were such very good friends and supporters of Easter Seals, providing guidance and leadership. We are sorry to learn of Jim's pasing and extend our sympathies to the entire Torrey family.

What a lovely guy, gentle, smart, quick wit and what a fisherman! Each of the Torrey clan is in our thoughts and hearts. I know I speak for all the Simons when I tell you how sorry we were to learn of Uncle Jim's death. We treasure the memories of our times together.

Dear Jody:

I will always remember your parents fondly. You dad was a great friend and mentor to me during my 22 years with CG/CIGNA. He epitomized the word "gentleman" and the best of his generation. My thoughts and prayers are with your entire family.

Jane & Family: I am very sorry for your great loss. Your Dad was a wonderful person and the best tennis player I have ever encountered. I'll never forget his telling me of his favorite trophy: a very small one he earned when he beat Bobby Riggs for the Cal. Juniors. He was a superb man with the model stroke! I will remember him.
