James Bannerman Troup, M.D., 79, of Clarke County, Virginia, died Thursday, July 26, 2007 in his home.
Dr. Troup was born in 1928, in Skene, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, the son of the late James Machray and Margaret Bannerman Troup. He was an Orthopaedic Surgeon retiring after forty years of service. Dr. Troup was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winchester since 1962, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, an Alumnus of the Mayo Clinic, and one of the original doctors of the Winchester Free Clinic. He was a graduate of the University of Aberdeen where he received a B.S. and an M.D. and served his residency at the Mayo Clinic. He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the British Army.
His wife of 51 years, Ethel Dolly Allen Goodall, whom he married on February 20, 1954 in Aberdeen, Scotland, preceded him in death on July 1, 2005.
Surviving are two daughters, Morag Houston and Lorraine Murray, of Galloway, Scotland; a son, James U. “Jamie” Troup of Bethesda, Maryland; five grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Troup Mitchell and a brother, William George Troup, both of Skene, Scotland.
A sister, Isobel Catherine Troup Yule, preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, at First Presbyterian Church, Winchester with the Reverend Donald D.M. Jones officiating, and will be preceded by the music of a Scottish bagpiper. Interment will be private.
