Not sure what to say?

Jim was my mentor, teacher, and friend. I spent endless hours in his office over four years and five classes at Austin College. He taught me about life and kindness. He was playful, compassionate, and warm, and I am so grateful to have known him. He loved me and I loved him. He is one of the most gracious persons I've ever met. Thank you, Dr. Ware.

I met Dr Ware at AC in the fall of 1977 as a freshman- he was my CI faculty. I ended up reading Plato's Republic in the bath tub of my dorm each night- Dr Ware helped to open my eyes to the world and gently challenge how I viewed it- I will be forever grateful...

Dr. Ware, his piercing blue eyes boring into your soul, put every philosophical question right back at you until you relented and learned. He was such an integral part of the liberal arts experience at Austin College that in many ways it wears his Cheshire cat face for me still. A gift to all of us - we celebrate your life and your generosity in sharing your gifts with all of us - forever your students.

Dr. Ware was an excellent teacher. My condolences to the family on your loss.

Heavenly Father, when I get there I ask that you grant Jim Ware and I a pleasant evening in your house of many rooms to have a meal of Kobe Beef as we did that time in Japan. I also ask you to give strength and courage to his friends, colleagues, and former students who wish he was still with us. This I ask in the name of your son, Jesus.

Dr. Ware challenged us with such warmth we were compelled to think. Love that would not let us go. He went out of his way for me when I discovered that not all ideas allowed me to be who God wanted me to be. When I was denied communion once at a church retreat not of my own denomination, he sat with me in my broken idealism as I wept. He knew when the Word needed to be enacted. He holds a sacred place among the mentors in my life and I will be forever grateful.

Dr. Ware was my mentor at AC. He became a spiritual grandfather and his kind and insightful advice always encouraged his students in the right direction. As a philosophy teacher, he was pure wisdom, the love and understanding which he instilled in those who knew him. His door was always open and I personally am truly grateful to his loving and enduring influence in my life. He will be truly missed. His bright spirit shall always shine in the memory of all who knew him. He never ceased to...

Jim was a challenging and intriguing colleague. I appreciated his insights when I came to AC and missed him when retirement took him and Emma to Florida. He was uniquely professorial.

Dr. Ware was a wonderful professor and guide to me in a time when I questioned my faith. He always had time to listen to students and share a helpful framework for thinking through questions of faith. I have always had a deep appreciation for him and am grateful to God for his life and witness
