McKneely Funeral Home - Amite Obituary

Jim Watson passed from this life on April 15, 2017 at his home at age 64. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Jim undoubtable left a mark and lasting impression on everyone he met. As a master carpenter, he not only built the most beautiful homes in the area but had the vision and creativity to help others visualize their dreams for their projects. A man of the land, Jim was an excellent beef cattle farmer and gardener. Every year, Jim’s garden would not only sustain the family with beautiful vegetables, but he generously fed many of the people in his community for whom he had the utmost care and respect. In addition, Jim was known for his sweet honey, which he harvested by the gallons. He loved reading—fiction, non-fiction, farming magazines and would sometimes read a book in just a few hours. A hard-working man, Jim was recognized by many in the community in his old blue truck with his dog companions riding with him. He was there to help anyone. Jim’s biggest joy was spending time with his granddaughter Noah Claire or as he liked to call her Peanut. They shared many experiences – trips to the barn, cooking projects, badminton and just hanging out in each other’s company. For those who knew Jim, there was never a dull moment. He will be dearly missed by many and thought of often for his one-of-a-kind personality. Survived by wife Sylvia Lindsly Watson, son Jeremiah Watson and wife Kristin, granddaughter Noah Claire, loving sisters Martha, Mary, Irene and Pat; nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his parents Willie B. Watson and Bettie Belle Muse Watson. “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away…He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.” Revelation 21:4-7. Visitation at Pine Ridge United Methodist Church on Tuesday April 18 from 6pm to 8pm and Wednesday April 19 from 8 am until service at 11 am.Memorial donations may be made to the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, PO Box 4486, Houston TX 77210 for cancer research or Pine Ridge United Methodist Church, , 3893 Hwy 440, Kentwood, LA 70444 or charity of choice. Not sure what to say?

He was a good friend of mine for along time. Sylvia please except my condolences

Sylvia and Jeremiah, I am so sad to hear of Jim passing away. I haven't seen y'all in a long time, but will always remember the fun times with him and your family at Kirby's Day Care. Please feel a warm hug from me.
Love to all, Laura Kirby Gutierrez

Mrs Sylvia and Jeremiah. I am so very sorry to hear of Mr Jim's passing. Though it's been many years since I have seen y'all, I remember him as quite the character. I pray for God's peace in this difficult time.

Sylvia, Jeremiah, Noah Claire, I am so sorry for the passing of Jim. I wish we could be with you, our prayers are with you. We love you.

My family and I loved James. Most people call him Jim, but he was always James to us. He was a true friend and he was larger than life. James will live on through our memories. May those memories sustain his family and friends in the days ahead. As Augustus McCrae said in Lonesome Dove, It ain't dying I'm talking about, it's living." There's a scene at the end of the Secondhand Lions that sums up James Watson. When the sheik's son asks Walter if the men from the stories really lived, Walter...

He was one of a kind, so sorry for your loss

My heart is with his family.

Sylvia, Jeremiah and family,
So very sorry about Jim's passing. I know that with your deep faith, the Good Lord will bring you strength. Jim has joined the angels that are protecting and watching over you each and every day. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. God Bless

Sylvia, so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. Prayers go out to you and Jeremiah and the rest of your family. Jim was a very sweet person & will be greatly missed by all who knew him
