Not sure what to say?

Nicole, Kirsten, and family, I have just watched the video tribute to Carson, which was so lovely and moving. What an amazing life, to have had such gifts and creativity. Over the last year, he has been just "Nicole's dad" to me; of course, there is always so much more, and I've just learned a little more about that depth that reaches where illness cannot touch. That's the man you knew best, and it seemed that he held tightly to humor, peace, love, and dignity even as things became more...

Carson was my first boss when I worked in the band department at Werlein's for Music in Jackson when I was in high school in the early 70's. He was a huge inspiration for me. I always assumed that our paths might cross again. My thoughts are with his family and associates.

Kirsten, Nicole, Christopher, "little" Carson, and my good buddy Big Kit,
I am truly sorry you have lost Carson. He was a sweet, good, gentle man and I am proud I knew him. He was loaded with talent, like all the Whitsett family is to me. Kit and I had a great time at your home in Nashville when you first moved there. You are all in my prayers. Love, Lynn

Carson, I just heard of your passing yesterday. I knew you were ill and I wished I had gotten to see you. It's been a long, long time since I used to sit in for you at the University Club while you were at Malaco doing sessions. I always thought you were a super nice guy and a fantastic musical talent. One of the bands I remember most was you, Tim, Bucky Barrett, Hodo and Tommy Tate when you guys came back from the west coast. What a group! Carson, I'm proud to have known you and called you a...

The Imperial Show Band

The Imperials

Many of my very best memories are from the great times spent sharing a bandstand with Carson Whitsett, making music with our friends. His stellar talent and gentle spirit always made it a pleasure. Carson, thanks for everything; you're the best. To all of the Whitsett family, who were always there for us, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

My prayers for an excellent musician and a gentle soul. I hope we can gig together again someday in the band in the sky. To his entire family, Lynn and I express our sincerest condolences.

Tim and Carson played several Proms in my home town of Magee and I remember several times at the old Heidelberg Hotel in the Victory Room after a game at the stadium. Carson you are missed and my prayers are with you and your family.

Kirsten and Tim,

It has been over thirty years since I last saw you and Carson in Jackson. However, when I heard from my friend Jon Hornyak of NARAS about Carson yesterday, I was deeply moved and have been reflecting on how truly special he was. One of the emails Jon forwarded to me said that "he finest, most gentle people I ever met" and that is how I feel as well. I can only imagine the void the two of you must feel.

With Love and sympathy,
Leland
