Not sure what to say?

I did not know James L., but I was very good friends with his son, James Perry who passed away too soon at age 29 in 1991. If James L. was anything like the man his son Perry was, then he was certainly a wonderful person. My sincerest condolences to all of the family, but especially to my long lost friends, Joy and Terri.

I played for Coach back in the early 70's at PBC. The thing I remember the most is the times it was raining like cat's and dog's,we were practicing at Forest Park. He would come driving up in he's 1968 Camero and never get out of the car...Players that remember this remember that he was a very large intimidating man. His directions came from a mega phone he would hang out of the window. We never missed a beat. Our fear and respect for him was that great. It takes a Great Coach to conduct a...

I was fortunate to get to play football, baseball and basketball for Whittenberg. I have so many memories of Whittenberg that I don't have the time to tell them all, but if you ever had to go on a trip with him then you probably had to give a 2 minutes discussion on the sex life of a bobby pen, without being rude. Very few people made as big an empact as you did on me. The sports world in Fort Worth will never be the same. Thank you for never letting me quit. Greg Haas

God's speed to you "coach". I would imagine you have them running "laps" in heaven by now.
Coach Whittenberg was a man that got the very best out of you. He taught every one of us how to be a winner, and I for one will be forever grateful.

I first met Whittenberg when we were kids. I often visited my cousin, Dick Carpenter, in Breckenridge. They were best friends. He was very important to Dick and his family. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I know he will be greatly missed by the many whose lives he touched in such a positive way.
Most sincerely with deepest sympathy,

Coach will be missed. He was a great motivator and mentor for boys. I always ask myself if I'm living up to his expectations. He devoted untold weeks, months, and years to building character in young men.

To the family of "Wheaties" and his boys. James was smaller than we were when we all hung out at his house, Mattie and George's. It was a fun time of our lives in Breckenridge. His older sister, Georgia, was a classmate and a wonderful person as James was also. His family came from good roots and for that we are thankful. Blessings to all of you.

I remember Coach Whittenberg coaching the little ones for the Ridglea Roughnecks back in the day. My son played for him, he was a wonderful guy whom the kids loved and respected.

Sorry to hear of "Coachs "passing. Several years ago I got used to getting his calls about "practice" his mail and once a very large shirt delivered by UPS.I met James at Montgomery street Cafe and gave it to him.We had a good laugh. Again my prayers are with the family. Jim Whittenburg
