Skip was one of my brothers, Mike Powers, best friends. I only knew Skip for one year when I was in Louisiana helping my brother move mobile homes. Being a fellow Marine,he loaned me his old Chevy pickup so I had wheels. He was always smiling and was just a great guy. Mike was killed on his bike,so now wherever they are they can talk over old times.

Well, time has moved on, but still you're sorely missed. Michael is a detective now, and brought his son into the world in March: Tristan Michael Wright, a beautiful baby boy. Bucky graduated from the police academy! So, your oldest two sons have followed in your path. We'll have to wait for Matthew & Jonathan to see where life leads them. And your daughters are alive & doing well, raising babies of their own that will never know their Grandpa Skip. I hope you are looking down with pride as your seven children make their ways in the world. See you on the other side some day...Wife #2, Diane J.W.R.

(Written for Skip, while we were married; after leaving Wyoming, a land that he loved; during a sad and lonely time in our life, when he felt forsaken by some very close friends)

"The Clown"

I knew a young man, a young man I knew,
He made people happy in all that he'd do;
Just a word spoken would bring on a smile,
He could make the old woman feel just like a child.
Day after day, he would bring me much cheer,
Soon, I did love him, this young man so dear;
He gave me the things that I lost as I grew: my heart, and my spirit, and the youth I once knew...
But the clown isn't laughing, he's crying today -
He has no more laughter or joy to give away;
His troubles are many, his good times are few,
The clown isn't laughing,
But what can we do?
Soon we were married, his child I did bear,
And for a short time, he found comfort there;
He clung so tightly to hopes that would fade,
For no one remembered the joy that he'd made -
And the clown isn't laughing,
He's crying right now,
Sorrow is falling all over the town;
His burdens have beaten him into the ground;
The clown isn't laughing,
And we stand around...
Soon it possessed him, til day after day,
All those who loved him, he pushed them away;
He locked himself up in a land with no key,
For no one would listen, and no one could see:
That the clown's always laughing, but feels not a thing,
Always to others, the good times he brings,
But, who takes a moment to be with the clown?
Who cheers this man up when he's feeling down?
And the clown isn't laughing,
He's crying again -
Tears fill his eyes,
He can stand no more pain.
He blows me a kiss as he's going away;
The clown isn't laughing,
He's dying today...

To the Wright family,you have my deepest condolances. I Met Skip when I went to visit my brother Michael,while he was in New Orleans. He was a great guy. I only knew him briefly,but briefly is all it takes for someone to be forever in your heart. My brother Michael Patrick Powers was killed on his bike in PHX. AZ. in october of 07. I knew that Skip and him were very good friends,and I tried hard to contact him with no success. Even though friends may lose contact with each other,they remain friends nonetheless. I wish I could have talked to Skip one more time,to talk about the times way back when. I will never forget his easy manner and smile. Skip,I will see you when I make the journey that we all have to make someday,until then you have your good friend, my brother, to talk to,and all the angels to keep you guys company. We will all be together again one day.love,Kevin.

It's odd but there is one thing most people like to do.
To spend a while beside the grave of some one that you knew.
You do it when you've time enough to make a quiet ride.
To see the fleecy clouds above and watch the shadows glide.

You think of things he did and said, and of the ways he had.
And now to think that he is dead. It makes you feel plum sad.
It brings the old days back again, you live them one by one.
You think of things that happened then, and what you should have done.

They say there'll be a Judgment Day when dead men rise again.
So I suppose he'll have to stay just where he is till then.
But then you reckon that the one who made the world knows best.
He takes them when their work is done and lets them have their rest.

And when at last our strength has failed we make our last long ride.
We leave this world and take the trail across the great divide.
So when it's time to make the change we'll go where they have gone.
We'll meet them on another range somewhere in the beyond.

Happy Trails my friend.

I will miss you terribly. You were always able to bring a smile to my face by telling me one of your many crazy stories or trading quips back and forth with me or by simply calling me your pretty baby girl...I am glad I have so many memories of you to hold onto. I love you

To Skip's Family and Loved Ones:
I have the honor of knowing and serving with Skip for many years. He prepared me for the FBI Sniper School by being my rifle instructor. We had many missions together-some of which were very tense. We prevailed because we had a common bond between us-neither one of us would ever leave the other-period.
I give thanks to Almighty God for bestowing the gift of Eternity in Pardise upon Skip which is what Skip has earned and which he deserves.
I will always remember Skip as a true friend and mentor.

Michael and Melissa,
I know that you dont remember me but your dad was my training officer with JPSO in 1980. I was friends with he and your mom. I remember you guys as little kids. Your dad taught me alot about police work that I still use today after 28 years as a police officer. I looked up to him and he was one of my mentors. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your mom and other brothers and sisters. In fact you and your sister even stayed at my house a couple of times when you were real little so your mom and dad could go to functions. If there is anything I can ever do for you guys feel free to contact me. Jimmy Gregoire Jr. 270-5388
