I was so sad to hear of Jim's passing. I've known him since we were little kids, having grown up in the same neighborhood, and going all through school together. My prayers are with the family in this difficult time.

I just went online to look up Jim's latest email to ask if he would be willing to help with reviewing a paper on Apocynaceae. And found instead the shocking news that he has passed away at 67. We were around the same age and worked on the same family of plants. I simply can't believe that he is gone. I'm so very sorry to hear this. My heart goes out to his family and I wish them the strength to get through this difficult time.

Jim was so gracious with all his family. Such a regular guy. I wish I had known him better. As my cousin we would mostly gather at weddings and funerals. So sad for the loss of dear cousin Jim. Condolences to his bride and sisters. What a shock to us all.

I am so sorry for the family. He was a brilliant man and I have most recently heard him talk for our local botanical group.

I was in Jim's classes from 5th grade through high school. He was the smartest all those years, but was very humble. 67 is way too young. RIP.
