Hermann Funeral Home - Stockton Obituary

On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, Jamie Marie Nobis went to heaven following a 21-month courageous struggle with adrenocortical carcinoma, a very rare but aggressive cancer.

Jamie was born on Wednesday, February 25, 1998, to James and Deborah (Brunner) Nobis at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. Growing up on the family farm in rural Hanover, she loved to play outside and explore. Her Grandpa Chuck lovingly nicknamed her “smiler.” Jamie was a proud graduate of the River Ridge class of 2016 in Hanover, Illinois. She obtained an Associate Degree in General Studies from Highland College in 2018. Her many occupations included working in clothing retail, as a server and bartender, a unit clerk at SSM Health in Madison, and most recently in property management for short term and Airbnb rentals. Jamie loved reading, listening to podcasts, playing games, doing crafts with her son, thrifting, playing volleyball, exploring farmers markets, cooking and attending her bible study group.

Jamie’s greatest joy in life was her son Rowan. She was the perfect mother for him. Her unending love and patience for her curious, energetic and sweet little boy was an awesome and incredible thing for those close to them to witness. Jamie loved God with all her heart, and she had the immense joy to see her son baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit less than two weeks before she passed away.

In December of 2019, Jamie met Akira Yang who became the love of her life. The couple enjoyed spending family time with Rowan, arcades, walking their dog Tanji, riding crazy karts, and cooking. Jamie was welcomed by Akira’s friends not as just a friend but as a sister who supported them through some of their hardest times. Akira showed her incredible tenderness and love throughout her last hours.

Jamie was loved by many. She leaves behind her adoring son Rowan Tobias Valdez of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, devoted fiancée, Akira Yang of Sun Prairie, loving parents Jim and Debbie of Hanover, Illinois, dear sister Amanda (Ross) Benner of Asbury, Iowa, treasured niece Josephine and nephew Levi. She will be greatly missed by her many aunts, uncles and “thousands” of cousins from both the Nobis and Brunner families, and Great Aunt Carol Niemeyer. She felt blessed by friendships with Kayshe Miles of Denver, Colorado and Jasmine Barma of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.

Those who went before her include her grandparents, Charles and Maryalma (Atchison) Nobis, Freeman and Sue (Mary Suzanne Niemeyer), Aunt Sylvia Kunz, Uncle Patrick Brunner, Aunt Darcy Connolly-Brunner, and beloved unborn siblings.

Jamie’s family are truly thankful for the care she received during the past two years from UW Health, especially Dr. Marty and the palliative care team who took such gentle care during her final day. The family also thanks Moments Hospice for their loving care and concern during her short but important journey with them as well.

Friday, November 14, a visitation will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton, Illinois, beginning with the rosary at 2:30 PM and the visitation to follow with fellowship in the parish hall until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 15, a short visitation will begin at 10 AM with the funeral to follow at 11 AM. Cremation rites have been accorded.  A private interment of ashes will be held in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, at a later date.  A memorial fund has been established at Apple River State Bank.
