Not sure what to say?

I met Jan in Panama in January 2006. We shared stories and laughs over the ensuing month while I was there and in Colombia. Jan was a good man, someone I am proud to say was a friend, however briefly. I tried to find him every time I returned to Panama but never could, and so it was deeply saddening to discover his obituary online. I wanted to thank him for his friendship and for opening my eyes to the world of possibilities. Rest in peace, brother.

Alana and Me miss U, 4 ever in our❤

I met Jan through a very good friend in Panama and was lucky to hear many of his amazing stories first hand. He was one of life's true characters and it is very sad to hear of his passing. RIP

Jan was my neighbor and good friend in Panama for the past ten years. We shared a ton of laughs and good times, and his stories were legendary. He was proud of his Czech heritage, his American citizenship, his family, and his sled dogs. Jan was truly a "larger than life" character, and I'll miss him dearly. God rest his soul.

I'm sorry to have just learned of Jan's passing. I worked with Jan in the early 2000's. He was a very energetic and funny Man! Sending hugs to Michael and the rest of Jan's family, Marie

We are so sorry to hear about Jan's passing. We fondly remember wonderful nights, and dinners, up at Stuckagain Heights . He was a wonderful host with always interesting conversation. Our sincere condolences to the whole family.

My first winter in Anchorage 1988/89 I met Jan and got to be one of the "handlers" for the dogs at the ceremonial start of the Iditarod. Such a good memory. My condolences to his family.

I met Jan at the 1983 Fur Rondy, he bought 2 pair of snowshoes from me to bring on the Iditarod race that year. He was an amazing host at Stuckagain Heights restaurant, I ended up staying for a season and completed my rookie Iditarod race with his dogs. He was the original "wild and crazy czechoslovakian" for sure. Lots of memories and good times. Rest in peace Jan

Jan was an early and appreciated supporter of my photography, and he provided an invaluable opportunity when I really needed it. 'A friend in need is a friend indeed.' I admired his self-confidence, and how much he accomplished in his life. My condolences...
