Grimes

Jan Tobin, 53, of Grimes, passed away suddenly on January 13, 2015 with her family by her side, at University Hospitals in Iowa City from a ruptured brain aneurysm. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Care, 7975 University Blvd. in Clive on Saturday, January 17, from 1 to 3 p.m. A short prayer service will follow.

Jan was born September 5, 1961 to Ken and Mary (Fergesen) Tobin in Dixon, Illinois. She graduated from Dowling High School in 1979 and attended UNI in Cedar Falls. Jan enjoyed playing cards, playing games on her computer, and having her nieces over to Aunt GaGa's campouts. She had a heart as big as all outdoors, a quick wit, and would do everything in her power to put other people first. Her love of others was evident even in death, as she was an organ donor giving of herself so others might benefit from her untimely passing.

Jan is survived by her mother, Mary Tobin; sisters: Jean (Marty) Dunn and Jennifer Tobin; brother, Jeff (Kim) Tobin; nieces: Emily, Grace, Lydia, Abby, and Ava Tobin and Gabriella Dunn. She is also survived by her longtime companion, Steve Wood. Jan was preceded in death by her father, Ken Tobin; and sons, Alex and Chase.

Because of the love she had for her nieces, the family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Jude's Hospital for Children or to the Make A Wish Foundation.

My Jan d

One of the few times I could catch her on camera!! ❤

I miss you everyday Jan and you are still forever in my thoughts. We had 25 great years together my dear friend and I still meet you in my dreams. Love Always, Angie Edwards

Approx. 1 year later I found out of Jan's passing. Jan and I lived together for a while she was a very sweet lady and always happy, she will be missed. God Bless Her!!!

Jan was a wonderful lady, and we will miss her greatly. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family. May she rest in peace.

I echo Tracy's sentiment. It has been a very difficult week. My thoughts are with everyone that loved Jan. I'm still in disbelief and my heart aches. I think of the girls everyday. I keep waiting for my phone to ring. If Jan were here she would do something to distract me and say something to try and make it better. I just try to think of what it is she would do and say.

It's been a week...a very rough week. I think of The Tobin family and Steve Wood every day. I loved/love Jan more than I can express with words.

My Hero Forever In My Heart! I Love You Jan!

Mary and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. My mother-in-law, Norma, told me of Jan's passing today. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mary, Jeff, Jean & Jennifer,

We were very sorry to hear of your loss. Having lost our son Erik to a brain aneurysm just a month ago, we have an some idea of the deep sadness that you are feeling. Know that we are holding you all up in our prayers along with so many others. God Bless.
