She made a cameo appearance in a 1985 show titled "The 51st Ward" by newsman Peter Nolan and left the stage after she was cheered for vowing to make a political comeback. It didn't happen but I remember the determination in her voice and admired her grit.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Chicago' s first female Mayor, Jane Byrne. I offer her family my deepest condolences and pray that they find comfort in memories this holiday season and in the years ahead.
When Jayne Byrne was elected the first female Mayor of Chicago in 1979, she inspired scores of young women, who were just starting out in life, as to what was possible. I was one of them.
