Jane Dolores Peters, daughter of Frederick and Ruth (Draman) Truog, was born July 1, 1929 in Ellington Township, near Mallard, Iowa.  She received her education in Mallard, graduating from Mallard High School in 1947.

On June 30, 1949, Jane was united in marriage to Donald L. Peters at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa.  They were blessed with seven children.  Jane was a faithful and devoted wife, mother and homemaker.

Jane was instrumental in the creation of the Palo Alto County Association for Retarded Children in the 1950s, serving as the first president in 1959.  She was proud of her participation in the Iowa Association.  Through her efforts and those of other parents, with whom she developed a strong bond, Rainbow School for the children left out of mainstream education became a reality in Emmetsburg.

Jane worked outside the home for the first time at Bruch’s Grocery.  She was also employed at McNally’s Bakeshop in Emmetsburg for ten years, which she especially enjoyed, getting the opportunity to visit with and know the patrons.  In later years Jane volunteered in the elementary school, through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, reading to children needing that “little extra”.

Jane was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard where she was active in Church Circle.  Jane loved spending time in the quilting sessions.  After moving to Emmetsburg Jane was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg.

Jane loved having her family around and entertaining them. She collected dishes and enjoyed going to sales to purchase them.  She loved all kinds of flowers and raised beautiful gardens each summer.

Jane passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 95.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Ruth Truog; her husband, Donald; a daughter, Carol Peters; grandson, Kyle Rierson; great granddaughter, Madisen Carr; brother, Wayne Truog (Mardell); and son-in-law, Ken Buhl.

She is survived by her children, Sandra Buhl of Rockwell City, Iowa, Dan Peters (Cheryl) of Viola, Kansas, Donna Weig (Thomas) of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Pam Taylor (William) of Burlington, Iowa, Carla Firkins (Al) of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Dr. Paul Peters (Kim) of Madrid, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren; thirty one great grandchildren; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Not sure what to say?

Deepest Sympathy to the family. I remember seeing Jane for the first time at a 4-H meeting in her home and thinking she was the prettiest lady I'd ever seen. The picture slide show was very touching, she was obviously a very special person to many people, and oh my, such a wonderful large family! I so enjoyed a nice visit with Jane not so long ago on a trip to Iowa. Caring thoughts to her daughter Sandra, as we attended high school together in Mallard. Laurie Olsberg Shields

What a beautiful lady and family. May God bless you all. Loren and Lou Schomacker

Sympathies to the family.

Donna, Pam, Carla, Dan, Sandra, and Paul, So sorry for your loss. Jane was such a nice lady and loved all of you so much. I enjoyed visiting her a couple of times a year with my Dad when I would be home. She had a nice place there in Emmetsburg with other Mallard people. May your faith help all of you to know she is now in the greatest place of all. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you as Moms are always special people in our lives and no one can ever take their place. In Christ,...

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. You have my deepest sympathy
