Jane Ann Thompson, age 75 of Elkhart, IN, passed away at 6:02 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025 at Elkhart General Hospital.

Jane was born on Jan. 15, 1950, in Elkhart, IN, to Franklyn and Mary (Taylor) Deisch of Nappanee.

She is survived by her son, David (Tonya) Thompson and a granddaughter, Kayla Jane Thompson, of Elkhart; a sister, Melinda Badman of Niles; two sisters-in-law: Fortune Deisch of Roseville, California, and Rita Wegner of Sturgis, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. Her parents; husband, Ken Thompson; and brother, David Deisch, preceded her in death.

Jane graduated from Nappanee High School in 1968 and attended Manchester College in North Manchester, IN, and graduated from the South Bend College of Commerce in South Bend.

On Sept. 5, 1970, she married Ken in Nappanee. After living in Texas and Alaska, the couple returned to Elkhart, where they lived for 12 years before moving to South Bend in 1986. They moved back to Elkhart in 2013.

Jane worked in the newsroom of The Elkhart Truth for 31 years, retiring in 2008. She loved to read, spend time on the computer and visit friends. She enjoyed discussing politics and religion and was a lifelong fan of Elvis Presley.

More than anything else, Jane loved being a mother and grandmother. Granddaughter Kayla Jane was the sunshine of her life.

Visitation will be held from Noon – 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2025, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher-Yoder Funeral Home in Nappanee. Denny Olsen will officiate. Burial will be in Bremen Cemetery, Bremen, IN.

Not sure what to say?

From working beside Jane at TET for many years to being blessed with an incredible friendship with her post-career, Jane wholly depicts Proverbs 10:7: "The memory of the righteous is a blessing." My prayers keep on for David & Tonya and Kayla to be infused with God's peace of heart until they see her again in Heaven.

My parents loved Jane Ann & Ken, they were a fun couple enjoying many social gatherings at The Morris Inn with Frank , her Father....Jane Ann was a dear friend to my Mother, Natalia Shrock up until she passed. Jane Ann was loyal to her many friends, and my mother was one of them.... .may she be joined with her dear Ken..

I am so sorry on her passing. I just met her and she was so sweet and kind loved being around her and helping her out! Rip sweet Jane! Missed her stories and her talking about Elvis!

I want to say rest in heaven you were all good for mine. I just met you this year mine and we shared the love of God we each other I miss you so much and I will continue to miss you. You help me where I stand that today is for a few months of getting to know each other I will see you on the other side soon my friend rest in peace

One of the nicest souls I've had the privilege of knowing and working with. Rest in Heaven my friend.

I believe Jane was a good friend to my brother Jan Ed Jensen. He appreciated that friendship.

Peaceful Reflections

I worked with Jane at The Truth for many years and it was always my pleasure to have any conversation with her. She was a lovely, caring and thoughtful friend. May she rest in God's heavenly presence. Fred Blatz, Clearwater, Fl
