Peaslee Funeral Home - Farmington Obituary

Jane Kevorkian Wingate, 79, died April 8, 2022, after a lengthy illness.

Born November 11, 1942 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, she was the third of five children of John and Florence Kevorkian.

Jane was a professional photographer and essayist, and spent many years living and working in Farmington. Her landscape photographs captured the beauty of not only New Hampshire, but of the many places she traveled to, including Jamaica, Italy, the UK, Portugal, Canada, and Mexico. Her nonfiction essays were known for their wry wit and insightful observations.

A loving friend, wife, and mother, Jane was passionate about politics, reading, classical music, movies, art, and nature. She is survived by her husband of forty years John Wingate, her son David Leary, her daughter-in-law Shannon Whyte, her beloved grandson Nathan Leary, her brother Charles Kevorkian, and many much-loved nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial gathering for Jane later this year. Time and place to be announced.

If desired, donations in her memory may be made to Doctors Without Borders at https://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/.

Not sure what to say?

I had/have so much respect for Jane she brought so much to our town ! Rest easy Jane you brought so much to our small town thank you!

I was a student in Miss Kervorkian's english class in Farmington High School. She was a breath of fresh air ,creative, innovative a new approach to teaching. One example we had to do book reports and make a cover for the report. The typical expected cover was to use templates of letters and carefully cut them out to spell the name of the book. We were conditioned from experience to do it the same old way. I decided I am going to hack my letters for the cover out free hand ,tracing and cutting...

I’ll always fondly remember Jane as a diminutive spitfire who, as our freshman English teacher was a force to be reckoned with. You added spice to this world, Jane. Rest in peace. You’ve earned it.

Very much enjoy Jane's perspective she shared with her writing and photos on her aptly named website. Farmington has lost one of our dedicated historical documentarians. Sincere condolences to her family.
