Janet Flyr

Mrs. Flyr was my third and fourth grade teacher at Pope Avenue. Every day I use the language skills I honed by diagramming sentences on the blackboard in her class. I remember listening to her read "Charlotte's Web" to us after lunch recess, a chapter every day. Every student should be lucky enough to have a teacher like her!

Mrs. Flyr was a lovely person, always so at ease, an aura which made others immediately comfortable including her students. She was my daughter Carrie's fourth grade teacher at Pope Avenue School, and she, Marvin, and my family shared membership in the Unitarian-Universalist Society of Sacramento. I admired her tremendously and have a cookbook she gave me for helping in her classroom that year, as well as photos of her with the students taken on a field trip near my home. My husband, Bob,...

My deepest sympathy to the family of Janet Flyr. She was my third grade teacher at Del Paso Manor School in 1952. I remember her as a very kind and fun teacher. I have thought of her many times over the years. I know you have many wonderful memories of her.

Our deepest condolences to the family. I spent many wonderful years folkdancing with Janet and Marvin, and will remember them fondly - such great people. May they rest in peace.

We have lost a lovely person and a wonderful teacher, one whom I was lucky enough to have for two years. Her intelligence, wit and sophistication were a part of everything she taught. I owe her thanks for many things she introduced to her little fourth-graders, including a forward-looking awareness of ecology, multiculturalism, folk music (her autoharp!) and a taste for Tom Lehrer. I will never forget her.
