We say "we love you" to our sweetest mom, beautiful Tina Girolo. Janet (Tina) Martina Duncan Girolo left us too soon on September 20, 2025 after a short illness. Tina was born on November 11, 1944 in Ilwaco, WA and passed away peacefully at her home in Sebastopol, CA. She was the loving wife of Alden Girolo, best mom ever to Maria Matthies, Michelle Girolo Brisbin and Marsha Girolo. She was a wonderful grandmother to her beautiful granddaughters, Alicia Trull, Renee Matthies and Danyel Matthies and her great-grandsons Jonathan Jones and Jeremiah Johnson. She was affectionately known as Gigi once her great-grandsons were born.
She was a fun, creative, hard-working lady who loved her family and friends. Her grandchildren were her treasures, and her life-long friends were so very dear to her. She remained friends with her bestie, Nora Lucchesi Ward, since October 1959. She had many friends as far back as grammar school that she stayed in touch with, and she loved each and every one of them dearly.
She was an accomplished embroiderer, quilter and a master of the granny square afghan. There are countless babies, and some adults, who were lucky enough to receive one of her beautiful quilts or afghans. She excelled at many crafts and also loved gardening, dancing and rock hunting on the Eel River. She loved camping with her beloved Alden during their retirement after working many years together at their business, first at Lad's Market in Montgomery Village and then at Pacific Market in Santa Rosa, CA.
Our dear mom is survived by her three daughters, Maria Matthies (Jim Matthies), Michelle Girolo Brisbin (Marshall Brisbin) and Marsha Girolo and her granddaughters Alicia Trull ("Alicia loves you bigger than the stars, the moon and the sky"), Renee Matthies and Danyel Matthies and great-grandsons Jonathan and Jeremiah, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews and lots of wonderful friends.
Tina was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alden James Girolo, his brother Robert Girolo, and her mother and father, Janey King and Frank Duncan, and also by her sister Nancy and brother Gene and many other beloved family members. She was our beloved sweetie mom, grandmother, great-grandmother (Gigi) and lifelong friend to many, and now, God's daughter Resting in His peace. We don't say goodbye, dearest mom Tina, we say "Josephina" and we love you always. A memorial reception will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at the family home in Sebastopol, CA. Please contact the family for details.
Rest in Peace Dear Tina. Your mother was loved by our family. Love to her beloved daughters and their family.
