            Janet P. Kearns, age 87, of McGuffey, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025 at her residence, surrounded by her family. 


            She was born on October 6, 1937 in McGuffey, Ohio to the late Okey and Cloie (Jordan) Risner.  On December 27, 1958 Janet married John K. Kearns and he preceded her in death on February 14, 2021.


            Janet is survived by her three children: Sandy Castle of Ada, Jimmy (Stephanie) Kearns of Stewart and Jason Kearns of McGuffey; eight grandchildren: Lucas Castle, Jordan Castle, Heath Castle, Katie (Justin Brooks) Kearns, Kellie (Josh) Adkins, John “JK” Kearns, Max Kearns and Lauren Kearns; two great grandchildren: Cooper and Ezra; three siblings: Mike (Monica) Risner, Gary (Judy) Risner and LaVern (Claude) Conley all of McGuffey; and special friends: Junior Donnal and Mary Morrison. 


            She was preceded in death by her two brothers: Bud Risner and Kenny Risner; and sister and brother-in-law: Katherine “Kack” and James Johnson.  


           Janet retired from Upper Scioto Valley Schools, where she worked as the school secretary.  She was a dedicated mother and grandmother.  Janet was an avid USV Rams, Cincinnati Reds and OSU Buckeyes fan.  


            Funeral Services will begin at  12:00 PM on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at the McGuffey Church of Christ, 203 Columbus Street, McGuffey, Ohio 45859 with David Holbrook officiating.  Burial will follow in Preston Cemetery, Alger. 


            Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service on Wednesday, January 15th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the McGuffey Church of Christ. 


            Memorial contributions may be made to the Upper Scioto Valley Athletic Boosters, 510 Courtright Street, McGuffey, Ohio 45859.

Janet was a wonderful lady. I remember playing basketball at her house with Jimmy and others all the time in the summer. Always felt welcomed there. I helped Jimmy with his pasper route one summer. Fun times! She will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers go to the Kearns family.
