Janet O. LeFlore passed away October 18, 2015. She was a native of Wilmington, North Carolina and practically a lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama. She died at the age of 86. She was a graduate of Williston High School in Wilmington, and later completed her Bachelor of Science Degree at St. Augustine's College in Raleigh, North Carolina where she met her husband Walker B. LeFlore, Sr. Janet and Walker were married for over 50 years.
She earned a Master's Degree in Chemistry from Fisk University in Nashville, TN. She worked as a research scientist at Smith, Kline and French in Philadelphia, PA., doing research in the area of Electron Microscopy. However, teaching was her love and passion. She taught High School at Mobile County Training School after she and her husband moved back to Mobile to settle in the mid-1960's she took a position teaching Chemistry at Bishop State Community College for over 30 years until her retirement in 1992.
During her work as a Chemistry instructor she touched the lives of many students at the High School and College level. Upon retiring from Bishop State, she worked with her husband Dr. Walker B. LeFlore in his Medical Practice until they both retired in 2001. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter-in-law and friend to many over the course of her life. She is survived by her devoted son Burton R. LeFlore; five grandchildren Breton C. LeFlore, Bryceton B. LeFlore, Breagham B. LeFlore; Burton R. LeFlore II; and Breck Brook LeFlore. She has three sisters Judith O. Poindexter, Bettie O. Cam, and Joanna O. Lewis; and one brother Paul G. Owens as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is predeceased by her husband Walker LeFlore, Sr.; one son, Walker (Champ) LeFlore, Jr.; her mother and father Mable T. Owens and Angle B. Owens; her mother and father in law, Teah B. LeFlore and John L. LeFlore; three sisters, Eldridge O. Wilson, Carol O. Holmes and Evangeline Owens; two brothers, A.B. Owens and Warren Owens.
Visitation Friday October 23rd at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home from 5pm until 7pm with funeral services Saturday October 24th at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church at 1pm. Interment at Magnolia Cemetery.
The family request in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association Mobile AL.
