Janet C. Mann 1937 ~ 2021 A great light has gone out of the universe. Sounds like a cliché, but as I contemplate my wife, my companion of the last 36 years, it is all true. Brilliant, talented, kind, loving, beautiful, Janet leaves behind son Steve (Janine) daughter Susan, bonus sons Justin...

Not sure what to say?

Janet was my piano teacher the whole time I was at the U, and she had a major influence on me. I wasn´t a music major, I was an art major, but I was passionate about music and her teaching style and her great personality were just what I needed. I absolutely loved her! She was an amazing teacher and friend. I remember once she tapped the striking, almost staccato touch of a Bach piece on my arm so I could feel the way the technique hits the piano keys. My husband and I attended the program on...

Janet honored me with allowing me to be a "leading man" to her starring role in an "APPLAUSE" production at the Egyptian Theatre in Park City in 1981. I shall remember you Jan, for sharing and embellishing la joie de vivre in the Park City of the 1970's and 1980's. Thank you for producing and conducting our little chorale. We may not have met your expectations but we made some good sounds and spread more than a modicum of good cheer. Mike , you were the best man; the perfect life partner...

Jan Mann (as I knew her) was a friend, advisor, teacher and more. I met her in musical theatre in Park City and had many occasions to for great chats and fun at her house and mine. These continued as lunch occasions when we were both at the University of Utah. I will forever be in awe of her as a friend, colleague, wife, mother....all and always with grace, talent, cheer, and generosity. Love you dear friend, Katherine

Dear Michael and family, We are so saddened to learn of Janet's passing. She was truly, as you wrote, a light in the universe. Although our family had more personal history with you, we fondly remember her greeting us warmly when we would run into the two of you at Deer Valley concerts, as if she had known us always. Also, we were very fortunate to have experienced the Creativity and Madness presentation you and Janet so amazingly portrayed. You are in our hearts. Love, The Rishe...

I believe Jan and I became acquainted in the early 80's - possibly through something at the Egyptian Theatre. Although I don't remember the details of our meeting, I do remember how flattered I was to be invited to join "The Jan Mann Singers." I especially loved performing during the Christmas season. We rehearsed at her Park City home ~ she directed us in a professional manner, but we became friends, one and all. One of my favorite memories of that time was performing at the Balloon...

A portrait of Janet hangs on the wall of the entry to Gardner Concert Hall, honoring her founding of the piano pedagogy department at the University of Utah School of Music and reminding students and concertgoers of the fruits of her creativity, vision, practice and more practice. And well do we remember her exquisite playing joining Michael´s psychiatric insights in their duet, presenting the life and music of Chopin beyond Gardner Hall and the state´s and country´s borders to wide acclaim,...

How awful, Michael. I am so sorry. I will make sure to tell Kristina H. And I hope I will see you sometime soon in person.

All my love Michael. May your memories of wonderful days past help now and always.
