PONDER, Janet - Of Flint, age 88, died Saturday, January 13, 2018. 


Funeral service will be held 2pm Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, 


Minister Steve Cunningham officiating. 


Burial in Crestwood Cemetery. 


Memorial contributions may be made to “His Ministry” Bristol Road Church of Christ food program or a charity of one’s choice. 


Visitation 6-9pm Wednesday and 1pm Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home. 


Janet was born in Leachville, AK on June 13, 1929, the 8th of 10 children to Howard and Julia Brooks, who preceded her in death. After growing up in a farming community, she and Amos moved to Flint in 1949, where they raised their family. Once her children were grown, Janet was most generous with her time volunteering as a Hospice worker for over 10 years. Janet was a member of the Church of Christ from a young age and attended Bristol Road Church of Christ. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing gospel hymns. Janet enjoyed quilting and was an excellent cook, often cooking for families in their time of need. She relished entertaining and spending time with friends and family. 


Surviving are husband of 70 years, Amos Ponder; 


children, Paula (Wendell) Jennings, Gary (Caryl) Ponder, Marla (Jim) Stone; 


grandchildren, Suzan (Chris) Canipe, Kimiko (Sam) Boykin, Jennifer Jennings, Kristen Jennings, Rachel Stone, Brett (Masayo) O’Connor, Katie O’Connor (Grant Asher); 


great-grandchildren, Saxon, Zoe, Lily June, Colin, and Payton. 


She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Ponder.

I first met Janet when I began attending Sunday night Bible study at Bristol Road Church of Christ. I saw a real lady and when I got to know her I found her to be a real lady. I loved to sit next to her at the monthly pot-luck and listen to her stories about Amos, how they met and got married, how it was raising her kids and funny stories about their neighborhood. I just loved to listen to her. She had a great sense of humor and liked to laugh. One night was devoted to talking about...

My prayers going up for Amos and her family. I remember as a small boy listening to her beautiful voice at church. I have always loved her and Amos. I believe she is now singing with the angels in God's heavenly choir.

What great memories we have of living across the street from the Ponders! Janet was an inspiration to me as a young mother. She was a great example of friendship, kindness,and Christianity. Our thoughts and prayers are with Amos and the whole Ponder family. May she rest in peace!!

I was so honored to have been able to do your hair for 18 years and make u feel good and beautiful able to share lots of wonderful stories with you and I am going to miss you so so much RIP and now you get to see your baby Larry RIP MRS.JANET PONDER.
