TAYLOR, JANET MARIE – Age 85, of Swartz Creek.


Janet departed this world peacefully at Hurley Hospital, Flint MI, April 4, 2023. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2023 until time of her Celebration of Life at 12 p.m. at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, MI, Pastor Christine Wachendorfer officiating, with interment at Evergreen Cemetery.


A lifelong Flint area resident, Janet was born February 15, 1938, to the late Charles M., and Minnie V. (Alsup) Taylor and graduated from Central High School. She attended Lee College (now Lee University TN) from 1960 through 1961 where she was a member of the Touring and Campus Choirs.


Janet retired from The Flint Journal after 43 years of service, from 1955 - 1960 leaving briefly to attend Lee College, and returned in 1961 until retiring in 2001. She received the YWCA of Greater Flint---Corporate Woman of Achievement Award in 1997.


As a member of the West Flint Church of God, she was active in the choir, and was awarded Assistant Sunday School Teacher of the Year in 1966 and l97l. Janet also enjoyed helping family members and listening to Gospel Quartet music or Classic Country music. Her love for dogs and cats was expressed by helping animal welfare agencies throughout her life.


She was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth G. Taylor, Roland M. Taylor, and Charles L. Taylor; sisters, Nadine (Taylor) Schell, Gwendolyn (Taylor) Jarrett, Patricia Taylor, and Norma Taylor, and a brother-in-law George Schell.


Surviving are her cousin Jerry Nichols (Carol) of Waterford, MI., nieces Sandra Buxton (Reg) of Naples, FL., Diana Jarrett of Sarasota, FL, and nephew, Roland Lee Taylor (Hiroko) of Chesapeake, VA., and their daughter, Stephanie Taylor of Kernersville, NC.; and Karen (Doug) Combs, Harrison, OH.


Great-nephew Jon Buxton (Dina) of Chesterfield, MO, and sons, Patrick, and Sean Buxton. Great-niece Heidi Buxton (Anthony Deluca) of Naples, FL, and daughters, Cameron, and Saffron Buxton.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to Humane Society of Genesee County, PAWS Rescue, P.O. Box 87, Swartz Creek, MI 48473, or Genesee Cancer Center.

My beloved aunt had a ready smile and was always eager to help others. She is happy and healthy now in Heaven reunited with our family.

Janet was so sweet and enjoyable to talk to. She loved her family and missed her sister Patricia. Hope your happy in Heaven listing to your records.

I had the opportunity to work with Janet at The Journal she was such a blessing to work with. We even talked after I left and she retired from the Journal. Praying for the family.
