Janet was born on December 16, 1941 in Powellsville, NC to Della J Garrett and William Thomas Garrett Sr, the third of their five children. Janet attended elementary school in Bertie county NC and moved to Newark, NJ at a young age where she graduated from Central High School. She met and married the late Calvin Passmore and had four children. Janet had a long career as an Executive Accountant with Prudential for 20 years. After Calvin passed later in life, she met John Terry and remarried. Once retired she moved back to Ahoskie, NC and worked part time as a housing manager for three years until she fully retired.
Janet was a devoted church member of First Baptist Missionary Church of Powellsville. She sang in the choir, participated with various church events and assisted the meals on wheels program.
Janet loved to dance and could often find her on the dance floor of any event she attended or in her bedroom dancing to the temptations. Her favorite Temptations song was “My Girl” She loved singing and humming especially in the car. While riding in the car she was fascinated with trees! Additionally, she loved watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, The Temptations movie series, any of the Madea movies, and catching up on current news. She passionately loved the Dallas Cowboys and would trash talk to anyone that was against “Dem Boys” She also loved traveling the world. She has visited London, Paris, Rome, and several states in the US but she couldn’t get enough of cruising to the Caribbean islands. She adored shopping for new clothes, shoes and accessories. She was a true fashionista.
Sadly, Janet departed this life peacefully on 09/13/24 surrounded by her family members.
She was preceded in death by her sister Althea Williams and her brother William Thomas Garrett Jr better known as Buddy.
Her memory is left to be cherished by her daughters Annette Hairston (husband Avery) Tracy House (husband Reginald) Sharonda Reeder (husband Anthony) her son Calvin Passmore (wife Patricia) her sister Elizabeth Harrell and her brother Charles Garrett (wife Gladys) 15 grandkids 17 great grandkids and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins extended family and friends.
