Not sure what to say?

I knew Jan and Bob through my folks. My most vivid memories were of Jan as an extremely friendly person, and Bob as a good and smart business guy as well as being friendly. Bob and my dad were cousins and Shelly and David were about my age, Shelly being only a few years younger. I got to know Shelly better in later years.

I remember when I was just a kid and Mom and Dad were surprising Bob and Jan with a visit. Bob answered the door with an apron on. He was doing the dishes. ...

I was glad to hear that Jan went peacefully. She had a good life with a loving, caring family and a group of great friends. Jan's was a life truly lived. Her spunk, tenacity and generosity live on in Shelley.

My sister Cheryl and I are pouring over family photos and each time we come across one of Jan we smile and remember the wonderful times our families have shared. (Our family & Shelley's have been connected ever since Freeport days). Every time I pass over a stream, river, or other body of water and witness a beautiful swan, I will remember her. Peace.

COURAGE and GENEROSITY. Jannie was a champion of both.

We've known Shelley and all her family for a very long time. Our kids grew up together in Freeport, IL. Anne and Scott were involved in theatre at Highland College. I worked with Shelley and Bob on Beam Vacuum Systems marketing. Always so proud of their Norwegian heritage, Bob and Jan would come to visit in Freeport. Then Jan would come and help Shelley out in the kitchen, cooking all these fabulous little appetizer bites and filling the freezer. She always had such strength and a great...

My family and I never met Mrs. Sampson, but we know her daughter Shelley. We wish we would have gotten the chance to meet her, because we know Shelley and we believe she is the way she is because of her mom.

The world is a nicer place because of people like them in it.

As I have said to cousin Shelly in an earlier e-mail, Jan was a person who certainly deserved to live a long life.

My parents visited Jan & Bob in Webster City, IA, when Jan had not yet been diagnosed with polio. Bob answered the door with an apron around his waist. He was doing the dishes. What a brave and powerful rebound Jan made from that. We were always amazed at what she accomplished.

When she and Bob would visit my parents and me in Kerrville, Texas, she was...

Dex and I met Jan about 15 years ago when Shelley brought her mom and friends to Horseshoe Bay, Texas, for a weekend. I remember how amazed I was to learn that they had been friends since grade school. This group was a perfect example of young at heart!

I have fond childhood memories of family visits to Webster City to see Jan, Bob, David, and Shelley. We would be house guests for a few days and enjoy good times and great hospitality. As a kid, I wasn't aware of how much Jan did to make us comfortable and welcome. Once I grew up, I lost contact but later we reconnected, talked about family, and she taught me about cranes.

To her friends and family who will miss her, you have my sincere condolences and the hope that warm...
