Jared Glenn Trammell, age 80 of Murfreesboro, died Saturday at his home surrounded by family. He was a native of Waynesboro, Tennessee, and was the son of the late Hoke Smith Trammell and Grace Corinne Belew Trammell. Following the death of his parents at a young age, he and his sister were adopted by their maternal grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Glenn Belew of Waynesboro.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Avanda McCutcheon Trammell; their children, Corinne Trammell Arnold and husband Jay of Murfreesboro, and Jared Glenn Trammell, Jr. and wife Susan of Nolensville; grandchildren, Wesley Ryan Arnold, and Christopher Graham Arnold, Caitlin Elizabeth Trammell, Christin Allean Trammell, Carleigh Suzanne Trammell, Chloe Mae Trammell, all of Murfreesboro, Reagan Amanda Rotter and Christian Elijah Rotter both of Nolensville; a sister, Grace Belew Trammell Henderson of Savannah, TN; a niece, Elizabeth Henderson Turney of Huntsville, AL; nephews, Roy Terrell Henderson, Jr. of Savannah and Craig Lee Underwood of Murfreesboro; great nieces, Grace Belew Turney and Caroline Elise Henderson of Mt. Juliet; half-siblings, Rosalyn Trammell Minatra of Waynesboro, Hoke Smith Trammell, Jr. and wife Sumiko of Littleton, CO and Patricia Anne Trammell of Winter Park, FL.; the family of his late uncle Jared Theodore Trammell in Five Points, AL and LaGrange, GA, as well as a host of other loving family and friends.

Mr. Trammell was a 1955 graduate of Wayne County High School and attended Auburn University. He later went on to graduate from MTSU with a Bachelors and Master’s degrees in political science and history.

Mr. Trammell was a longtime member of Murfreesboro First Baptist Church where he was a member of the King’s Men Sunday school class. He was a United States Air Force Veteran and served in Iceland and Florida.

He and Avanda moved to Murfreesboro in 1965 and both enjoyed careers in education. His many positions included serving as principal of Westside Elementary in Cannon County and most recently retiring from Rutherford County Schools following a 30 year career as a teacher and as a vocational evaluator.

As an avid sports fan he could tell you the names of all the players and coaches as well as statistics. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home and taking cruises and he possessed a keen interest in history and politics that was with him all his life. He kept up with the stock market and world news daily by reading his newspapers and books making him a popular source of information for his children and grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Reverend Dr. Noel Schoonmaker officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in memory of Glenn to the King’s Men Bible Study Class at First Baptist Church and an online guestbook is available for the Trammell family at www.woodfinchapel.com

I had the pleasure of working with Glenn for many years when he would visit Smyrna High School to test students. He was a sweet man. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Praying for all of the Trammell Family for comfort and peace.

Avanda and family, I'm so sorry for your loss. Harris and I go back so many years with Glenn--all the way to Walterhill School! He was my principal at Westside School and then we shared all those years working together at the Central Office. I sure will miss him!
