As morning broke Sunday September 13, 2015, Jasiu Milanowski (69) breathed his last in Hospice of Holland care at Medilodge, Holland, MI., with Kerry Shaffer, his wife, constantly at his side, and surrounded all week long with the love of many friends and family. At sunrise, Jasiu's great...

Not sure what to say?

The legend of all legends. My friends and I greatly benefited from his kindness. Kerry as well, is an angel. The two of them.. man what a force. After learning about jasiu's life, his words and actions all make a bit more sense. He wasn't just a nice and charismatic person.. he was the embodiment of a righteous leader. Long live the coolest dude Ive ever Known. Love and peace as always

Kerry, and Loved Ones -- I'm so sorry for your (and our) loss. Jasiu was probably the #1 reason we moved to G.R. long ago. He was among the first people we met while looking over the territory, and we figured if this awesome guy was here in GR, then the town was good enough for us! Thank you, Jasiu, for all you've done, and all the good things that are your legacy. You truly walked the walk. Peace!

Thank you Jasiu for your support of so many people in the community and for your support of my daughter, Andrea' Nightingale in your incredible letter as she won the Kohl's Kids Who Care Award for your dance contributions at area Peace Festivals. Also for your support of my grandson and the visit you two had out in Allegan on the side porch area. We will miss you.

Dear Kerry, Mike & family--

As Jasiu's been my friend for 33 years, I realized he'd become my favorite sailor, Captain, funny guy and activist. Maybe you remember I first met him as Board Chair of Project Lakewell, a new environmental education group in Holland, when I was an intern. I'll never forget the total love he carried in his soul-- of compassion, beliefs, belly laughs, and peace. Like all of us now, I will dearly miss the positive nature of his life on Earth.

Kerry and family, I am sorry for your loss. Jabiru helped me to obtain conscientious objector status and mentored me to help others in that process. Later he became a friend and skiing buddy. I will always remember his "slow dog noodle" on Lost Boy Trail at Vail.

I am saddened to be writing of the untimely passing of my first political mentor, Jasiu Milanowski, at the too young age of 69.

I encountered Jasiu while I was still in high-school at the height of the movement against the US war in Viet Nam. Jasiu's calm dedication to social change inspired me. Under Jasiu's tutelage, I began volunteering at the draft counseling center in Grand Rapids and after a particularly high-profile event in the anti-war effort, Jasiu persuaded me to take...

We met Jasiu through our uncle John Damstra. Uncle John thought we should have some sailing lessons before we took his boat out. Jasiu may have not realized what he volunteered to do, but what a Great teacher. It was a great combination of laughing and sailing. I'm sure you were welcomed with "well done, good and faithful servant". God Bless, From the Koetje's & Lamb's.

Dear Kerry and Family, I am sorry to hear of your loss, Jasiu taught me about printing as I worked with him at Print Kwik for a few years and he was more a friend than a boss. I am thankful for all he shared with me.

Dear Fr. Paul; Sue and I wish to express our condolences at the loss of your brother. Seeing him at the wheel of his sail boat brings back our treasured memories of sailing on Lake Michigan. We also will pray for him and his family.

Your good friends;
Jim and Sue Fodor III
