Not sure what to say?

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Coach Harbert. I could never really call him Jason, as the moniker of Coach was such a term of respect. His patience and dedication to his students, players and family are a lesson in self sacrifice and all the great things one can hope to do in their life. His role in inspiring the lives of so many young people cannot be measured but by God. As my father would say, he was a gentleman and a scholar. I will keep the Harbert family in my prayers. For...

Rest in peace, Jason.

Hi. I am so sorry I cannot attend the service on Saturday. I will be on my first backpacking trip with 3 of my grandchildren and the son I named after Coach. We were unable to reschedule it.
But I am happy that I caught up with Coach the last couple of years. We got to games/RLS Class Reunions/funerals. And I was able to be present when he met face-to-face with Hadley Hicks after 30 years!
He had no stop in him as we tried to sell his book in Carmel and RLS.

Dear Harbert Family,
My most sincere condolences go out you. I knew and respected Jason for many years as a coach and a really fine man. God bless.

I remember the smile on his face when I made a basket to defeat Pacific Grove. He was genuinely happy - in fact, delighted. He talked about it for weeks afterwards and he just smiled from ear to ear and chuckled. I saw him at a reunion some 20 years afterwards and there was that same smile as he recalled that game. We had some fun times together on the basketball court. He was a great leader and coach and took great pride in his players. I can still see that grin and hear that...

Dear Coach! Thank you for believing in me when I sure didn't. As a scrawny little senior to be in high school, I had no plans to play basketball that season. You approached me and said, "Russ, I'd like you to come out and be the point guard for our offense". I said, "are you sure you have the right guy?"

36 years later, I write with gratitude to inform you of the impact you had on me when you invited me to be a part of a much more talented team than I deserved to be on. It had a lot to...

Dear Harbert Family, I'd like to offer my sincere condolences to all of you at this difficult time.

Mr. Harbert was a wonderful teacher that was unique in his era. His thoughtfulness, patience and warmth wasn't a common combination for a boys P.E. teacher. I think that it was because of that combination that his athletes and students were so loyal.

His style of teaching and coaching was authentic and genuine. It was evident that he enjoyed what he did and that translated...

My Father was in the Navy and was away from home often. During my time at Carmel High, Coach Harbert was my mentor, my Father....many awesome memories on the football field, basketball court and baseball field. I remember, fondly when he had the linemen over to his house in the valley to watch game films. Mrs Harbert would provide snacks...saying "oh Jason don't be so hard on the boys..."
I'm very sad of hearing the news of Coach Harbert's passing. I will never forget him!

Jason Harbert was a great mentor and human being. I had the pleasure of coaching jv football at Carmel High School when Jason was the head varsity coach. What I learned about coaching and teaching young student athletes was his doing. He always took the time to answer questions and offer suggestions. I have fond memories of him and Lois and their children.

Coach, don't forget about us down here. Keep coaching us.
