Jason Oetting

CHARLESTON, IL - Jason Scott Oetting, age 43 of Charleston, was at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 when God called him home to receive his new and perfect life - where all of the challenges and limitations of this world have been removed. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2012 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 902 Cleveland Avenue in Charleston and again on Sunday, from 1:30 until Service time. Funeral Services honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Ken Hoover officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in his honor be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or to Camp New Hope. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitations or service, or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920. Jason was born December 12, 1968 in Park Ridge, Illinois a son of Robert "Bob" and Carol (Schafer) Oetting. He is survived by his loving and devoted family which includes his parents of Charleston; his brother, Jeff Oetting and his wife Trina of Charleston, two sisters, Dr. Janna Oetting and her husband Dan Huffman of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Joy Shaw and her husband Reverend Jason Shaw of Springfield, Missouri; nieces and nephews, Matt and Olivia Huffman of Baton Rouge, Grace, Gabe and Gillian Oetting of Charleston, Maleah, Joanna and Maggie Shaw of Springfield; aunts and uncles, Dr. Gene and Peg Oetting of Seward, Nebraska, Reverend Larry and Kitty Oetting of Lincoln, Nebraska, Dennis and Donna Oetting of Emma, Missouri, Ernie and Darlene Schafer of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Shirley and Les Lee of Kansas City, Missouri, Lois and Jerry Pomerenke of Miami, Missouri, Sharon and John Bobzin of Concordia, Missouri and Sharon and Mike Sherrill of Farmington, Missouri; and numerous cousins. Jason was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernst and Anna Schafer and Norbert and Lydia Oetting. Jason was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charleston where he faithfully attended sunday school and church and took very seriously his responsibilities as usher and assisting with the Sunday offerings. He has been an employee of CCAR Industries in Charleston since 1990 and was loved by his co-workers for his dedicated friendship and his ability to uplift and motivate them. Jason was also a graduate of Charleston High School and continued to be a devoted Charleston Trojan sports fan. His love for sports and EIU football only enhanced his position as brother Jeff's biggest and most devoted fan. Jason was the ultimate Chicago Cubs fan and never hesitated to send a BOO! your way if you were not. He also was a Chicago Bears fan, enjoyed bowling and snow-skiing, participating in Special Olympic events (especially when he won), and was an avid fan of LSU and KU during his sister's college years. He was a former member of the Coles County 4-H program and fond memories are shared by those who watched him proudly show his lop eared rabbit at the county fair. Jason truly loved his family and was an inspiration for them. His devotion and love for his nieces and nephews was evident as he enjoyed watching them grow into their own favorite sport or activity and offered them encouragement at all times to do their best. Jason was a son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin - and most importantly a child of God. He lived every day with the true joy and happiness God intends for all of us to experience. The memories of Jason's infectious smile, his love for family, his kindness and consideration for others and his enthusiasm for life will be never be forgotten by those whose lives he generously and warmly touched.
