Toops Jason Charles Toops, age 16, of Maple Grove. Preceded in death by paternal grandmother, Irene Toops; maternal grandfather, Isom Chaney; uncle, Douglas Chaney. Survived by parents, Bill & Terry and brother, Brian; paternal grandfather, George Toops Sr.; maternal grandmother, Joan Chaney; aunts & uncles, Dennis Chaney, Derrick Chaney, Shirley (Dave) Vik, Sandy (Bob) Granley, George Jr. (Kim) Toops and 16 cousins. Service Friday, 11 AM at Maple Grove Lutheran Church, 9251 Elm Creek Blvd. Visitation Thursday, 5-8 PM at the church, and one hour prior to the service. Interment Maple Knoll Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Maple Grove Lutheran Church in Jason's memory. Jason was a kind-hearted child of God who gave his loving family 16 years of great joy. He was an excellent student who had a rare passion for basketball and sports. More important, Jason had a deep abiding love for God. While we miss him dearly, we know he is eternally wrapped in the love of Jesus and we look forward to our joyful reunion with him in heaven. Evans-Nordby 763-424-4000

Toops and I first officially met at the 2nd iteration of the MGO Express's first practice at the court outside Maple Grove Jr. High, sometime around 5th grade. By far and away, Jay was the most intimidating kid I had ever met at that point. He was a such a talented and passionate player, I legitimately was terrified of screwing up on the court, which happened a lot, because I was certainly lest gifted.
