Jason Hartman Weaver Jr. STUARTS DRAFT
Jason Hartman Weaver Jr., 82, passed away from his earthly home to his permanent home on Friday, December 5, 2008.
Born June 15, 1926, in Stuarts Draft, Virginia, he was a son of the late Jason H. Sr. and Marie Martin Weaver.
On November 7, 1952, he married his wife of 56 years, Patricia Morris Weaver, who survives him. He is also survived by a daughter, Melody Weaver Goshorn and her husband, Chalmers, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, a son, Jason H. Weaver "Jay" III of Stuarts Draft, Virginia; also two brothers, Elwood D. Weaver and his wife, Ruth, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Ralph L. Weaver and his wife, Beverly, of Lyndhurst, Virginia; three sisters, Nancy Barnhart, Charlene Kiser, and Lorene Suter and her husband, Jerrel, all of Stuarts Draft, Virginia; also many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Weaver was active and involved in many volunteer programs during his lifetime and had a great fondness for Stuarts Draft, Augusta County and a love for its people. Some of the things he was a part of included past President, and member of Stuarts Draft Sportsman Club, member of Stuarts Draft Business Men's Association, past President and member of Weekday Religious Education, helped re-organize Stuarts Draft Fire Company, in 1950, and was also a member for 40 years. He was past Chairman and member of Industrial Development Authority for 37 years.
Mr. Weaver was self-employed most of his life. He was owner and operator of Weaver Locker Plant, Weaver Meat Products, Suburban Realty and Land Developer, among other occupations. He and his wife were owners and operators of Patty's Pantry and the Hershey Candy Shop.
Mr. Weaver was a member of Stuarts Draft Mennonite Church for some 60 years and was presently a member of Mt. View Mennonite Church, Lyndhurst, Virginia. His spiritual life and those he met were very important to him. He had an active role in both congregations.
Mr. Weaver was a private pilot in his early years and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and a University of Virginia Fan. He was a member of the Stuarts Draft Golf Association.
A memorial service will be held at Stuarts Draft Mennonite Church 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2008, conducted by the Reverend Earl Monroe, the Reverend Charles Ramsey and Associate Pastor Rodney Nice with burial following at the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers asked to serve are nephews, Jerrel Weaver, Kenny Weaver, Darrell Weaver, William Barnhart, Danny Kiser, Maynard Weaver, Craig Shoemaker and Jerry Zirkle.
Honorary pallbearers asked to serve are Mr. Weaver's Sunday School Class and special friends, Marie Henderson, Teri Coffey, Martha Belle Burkholder and Jean Hatter.
In lieu of flowers, it is suggested to give of your time to some volunteer project in the community or a charity of your choice.
The J. H. Waver family would like to thank all the many friends for their acts of kindness and caring during Jason's illness. Also many thanks to the fine people of Home Health Care, Hospice of the Shenandoah and Drs. Hatter, Forbes and especially Dr. Miller and Fannie Miller.
The family will receive friends at the Stuarts Draft Mennonite Church from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2008.
