Jay was such a dear man and neighbor to my family. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him, but he had great warmth and it was such a privilege to know him.

Dear Mrs. Alexander,
I was saddened to hear of the passing of Coach Alexander. Please accept my deepest sympathies to you and your family.
I don't know if you remember my name, but I was one of his gymnasts back in the mid-1960's. I am now living in Detroit and fortunately a friend of mine sent the notice to me. I thought I knew Coach, but after reading the notice I learned quite more about him that I wished I had previously known. As you know, he was a dedicated educator and I...

Dear Alexander Family,
Your husband, father, grandfather touched my life by being a great father to my dearest friend. He always made camping trips fun and took the opportunity to teach us something new. I knew him as the most sincere Christian gentleman that lived his life to set it as am example for others. Jay, you are so loved. Your memories are in our hearts forever.

Uncle Jay was one of God's best creations. Some of my my siblings, and my children's fondest childhood memories revolve around his presence and the activities he taught us. If the goal of life is to leave a positive imprint on the world, he set the bar high! Love you Uncle! Peace and love to my dear Aunt Mary and cousins, Kyle, Julie, Mary and Wendi.

In 1963 I was a junior at Brush High working on my final Boy Scout merit badge to become an Eagle Scout. The merit badge was Physical Fitness and Jay volunteered to come to school early on many mornings to give me personal coaching. With his help and motivation, I reached my goal and became an Eagle Scout. I will always remember his devotion, inspiration and kindness. Many of us who knew him were truly blessed. Thank you, Jay!

I think of him often. Every time I play racquetball and roll up my clothes in a towel, I try to make the edges of the towel even - the way he taught me/us in gym class in the 1960's. He will be missed, and long appreciated.

Jay was my "one and done" senior high football coach. That's right, he coached us one year and retired from football. But, oh what a year. Conference champs, all-city and all-state honors for several players. In one year, Jay helped shape us and mold us into a lean, mean fighting machine. He also was instrumental in molding and shaping our lives into good, moral, and faithful young men. Yes, Jay was "one and done", but he accomplished in one year what others would have needed several...
