Not sure what to say?

Jay shaped modern climate science as much as anyone I can think of, though his insight, his courage in advancing new and risky ideas, and his amazing judgment so that those risks nearly always paid off. At the same time as he was one of the kindest and most humane people I ever worked with, he was also fearless, determined and tough in support of the advancement of science. I was one of the people Jay took a risk on, and as unlikely a candidate as could be, and I hope it paid off. I miss...

What a wonderful human being was Jay - kind and generous in every way. He spent a couple years at the Univ. of Oklahoma School of Meteorology and was highly respected by the faculty and students for his science and camaraderie.

I worked with Jay on a number of international field programs. In good times and bad, he was always the the bright light, the optimist, the enthusiast. I am glad I knew him.

jay was a good friend who stuck his neck out for my social science research on more than one occasion. I will miss him and wish to send my condolences to his family. mickey glantz, boulder

I never had the chance to personally meet Jay Fein but when my funding fell through just before arriving at Penn State for graduate studies he answered the call from my adviser and funded my research for 3 years. I am eternally grateful for his kindness. Thank you. I extend my deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Jay was more than an unusually effective and thoughtful program manager. He was a really nice person and mentor as well. Truly interested in the science, it was always a pleasure to interact with him on business or otherwise. He was visionary too, and atmospheric and climate science owes him our appreciation. Thanks to his family for sharing him with us all - our thoughts are with you.

I am so very deeply saddened to learn this news. I first came to know Dr. Fein when I was a lowly undergrad student at the University of Oklahoma. His mentorship and advice were absolutely pivotal to my choice to pursue a career in Atmospheric Sciences research.

In more recent years, as his colleague and fellow Program Director at NSF, Jay provided me with more sage advice and collegial support than I can readily express here. He was *truly* one of the finest human beings I have ever...

I would like to convey my deepest condolence to Jay's family members on his departure from this world. We all miss him, but his legacy will always be in our memory.
