Not sure what to say?

Wishing you well. Wherever you are.

So sad to know that such a good person is not among us. Think of you from time to time always with a smile on my face.

I do think of Jay every now and then and thank God I had the opportunity to meet him. He made my life better.

I was so sorry to hear about Jay's passing. I remember him as a wonderful physician and a kind and lovely man. I knew Jay when he was at UIC. With deep sympathy Jane Wendt

I was a member of "Jay's Kids" a group of medical students in early 2004-10 that Jay took under his wings to help get through the difficult years of medschool. I will always remember his advice and owe so many of the good decisions I made durint that time to his invaluable counsel. We were supported, respected and cared for with him as our adviser. His impact on this world is beyond words. My condolences to his family and appreciation to them for sharing him with us.

I met Jay over 35 years ago when I was hoping to come back to Chicago from my east coast GI fellowship. He was charming, funny, intimidating, and brilliant, all of the same time. I would see Jay, once or twice a year, and every time we talked, I was reminded how much I admired him, and enjoyed our friendship. Jay was an intellectual force and mentor to countless healthcare professionals, some one who made a difference.... In the best way possible. What a good man, what a wonderful legacy,...

Jay embodied all that is good in the human heart. Justin McKendry

Jay was my boss for over a decade. I had the privilege of having a weekly appointment with him in his office, where he demanded excellence from our trainees and more from our GI division. I got to bear his wrath when he was angry and feel his embrace when we celebrated a small victory, sometimes on the same day! He was always giving me tips on how to lead, how to finish meetings with a plan, and how to hold people accountable. He also advocated for me before I knew how to do it myself....

It´s Mel Speisman MD FACP So sorry for the loss of Jay. As a medical student Jay mentored me in so many ways to be the academic physician I am today. I worked side by side with Jay in his lab in the division of GI in 1989 on his early research on the sodium hydrogen antiporter. Jay is my inspiration for the quadruple threat of research, teaching, leadership, and outstanding patient care. Jay was a great scholar, clinician, educator, leader, & a truly wonderful person.
