Dear Mortensen family,
I wish to express my sympathy at the passing of your father. I was a member of the Garden Park Ward many years ago (1959-69), the oldest daughter of Dee and Bonnie Leavitt. I remember happy times taking swimming lessons at your home and especially being tended by Sarah, such a sweetheart and our favorite babysitter. Your parents were so kind to open their home to everyone. I remember Sarah bringing my sisters and I there once to make a "Happy Fathers Day" cake...

I had the good priviledge of working with Dr. Mortensen for several years at Cardiopulmonics. His energy and passion to help improve the quality of the human experience will be my lasting memory of him. God Bless your family.

Dear Mortensen family, What an example JD has always been to us. Sundays are Spence and Emily's will not be the same. Your family is in our prayers. May the Lord bless and comfort you at this time.

My thoughts are with you at this time. I remember one time when Jay had invited me over to your home for an outside bargeque. Your dad had just come back from an overnight camping trip with the scouts and your dad was talking to your mom and said "I missed being with you last night." That says a lot about someone. I had only met your dad once or twice. He was a very impressive person as all of you are. My prayers are with you.

Dear Mortensen Family,

Our extended family will forever be grateful to yours. Dr. JD Mortensen performed pioneering, life-saving, heart surgery on my mother, Denise McArthur, when she was several months pregnant in 1957. Mom survived 43 more years to nurture her family which included the baby she was carrying and an additonal one as well. Dr J.D. Mortensen crossed our paths on November 11, 1958. We were newlyweds of five months when we had to rush my husband (Bill) to the LDS hospital with complications from a rare disease called Kartagener's Syndrome. We were very frightened to say the least. We were so blessed with Dr. Mortensen's gentle care. Dr. Mortensen suggested that we move to a dryer climate to help his condition.
