Jean Allain Obituary

Jean François de Villeneuve Allain passed away on January 29th, 2024. A resident of Plymouth, MA, he was born on November 5th, 1948 in Casablanca, Morocco to Mathé Allain and the late Alexander P. Allain. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lynn M. Allain; son, Alexander Allain; brother, Kevin Allain; sister, Edmée Allain; niece, Sélène (Mitch) Marcello; and nephew, Aubrey Ladmirault. He is preceded in death by his brother, Paul Louis Allain; niece, Beverly Silberling; and nephew, Hayden Ladmirault. A graduate of St. Joseph High School in Jeanerette, Louisiana, Tulane University and Tulane Law School, he lived in New Orleans and practiced law for many years, working at Chaffe McCall before starting his own firm and later moving to in-house counsel. He was an avid fan of new technology, introducing computers to his law office ahead of their general adoption and always staying up to date on the latest technologies that were available. He was an ardent fan of the Houston Astros, the Tulane Green Wave, and the New Orleans Saints, which he watched on Sundays while exchanging "Who dat!" texts with his family and friends. He loved to teach and play chess, making many friends both in person and online from playing the game. He enjoyed organizing breakfast gatherings and fishing trips with his friends. He was an excellent chef, wowing visitors to his home with his shrimp boils, garlic bread, and homemade fudge. He was a devoted father and husband. He loved to travel, go for walks, and solve challenging jigsaw puzzles. He was a voracious reader of many genres ranging from scholarly works to mystery books by Rex Stout and Agatha Christie. He loved Christmas and decorated a beautiful Angel Tree every year. A devout Catholic, he was a parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in New Orleans and St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Plymouth. He loved socializing with friends and spending time with family. He will be greatly missed by many. Memorial gifts may be made in support of a scholarship fund in his name at Tulane Law School. Checks should be made payable to Tulane University, Memo Line: J. François Allain Scholarship Fund and be sent to Tulane University, P.O. Box 669394, Dallas, TX 75266-9394. His funeral service took place on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in New Orleans. Was saddened to hear of Francois Allain´s death. My brother, David Atteberry, loved the Allain family and lived there while teaching at St Joseph in Franklin, LA. David´s brother, John Bell Atteberry, joined his brother in death on August 1, 2024, who also loved the Allain family. I would love to contact the family about my brother John Bell Atteberry´s death in Worster, MA. I have left my contact information with the Lakelawn Funeral Home in Metairie, LA. Again, my condolences to the family. I remember hearing wonderful stories about the family from David. Elizabeth (Bann) Atteberry Bell Langley

Lynn, sending my condolences. You and Francois had a long relationship and I remember so both so well from college days. Joe Knight (who is still a friend of mine) sent me a note to tell me the sad news. Very best wishes to you.

So sad to hear of Francois' passing. I will forever remember our talks about our shared love of New Orleans, and his wonderful southern cooking. My sincerest condolences to you and your family.

Our sympathies and prayers. Francois was a wonderful man and great conversationalist. We were so fortunate to visit him last summer and he shared his love of food. May Our Lord grant him eternal rest.
