Jean M. (LaChance) Blossom, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 22, 2018, surrounded by loving family, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. A long-time resident of Concord, she spent her last years at the John H. Whittaker Place in Penacook and the Harris Hill Nursing Home in Concord.
Jean was born in Brattleboro, Vt. in 1935, the daughter of the late Edmond and Helen (Rancourt) LaChance. Her mother Helen passed away when Jean was only 11 years old. She was raised by caring family in Hinsdale. Jean attended Hinsdale High School where she excelled in basketball and was a majorette in the marching band. She graduated at the top of her class.
Jean moved to Concord in 1963. After raising six children, she became a successful insurance executive. Jean owned two insurance agencies – Whittemore Insurance in Londonderry and the Robert Main Agency in Plymouth. She was a tireless businesswoman, highly regarded in the Londonderry and Plymouth communities for her dedicated service to her insurance clients. She was loved and respected by her employees and by the insurance companies she represented.
In retirement, Jean continued to devote all her time and energy to her family. She was the ultimate Nana, renowned for her prowess and patience at Scrabble and Monopoly. She made every Christmas special for her children and grandchildren alike. Her gingerbread houses were the highlight of every holiday season. She loved to bake with her daughters and granddaughters. Jean never missed a birthday, an anniversary, a recital or an athletic event.
Jean loved York Beach, especially Short Sands, where she brought her family for relaxing summer vacations. She was fond of the island of Aruba, which she visited frequently for fun in the sun. She was an avid reader and diligent with her daily crossword puzzles. She loved knitting and embroidering. Jean was the family historian, committed to documenting her family ancestry in words and pictures for all to enjoy.
Jean is survived by her six children, Dale Blossom and his wife, Judy of Campton, Randy Blossom and his wife, Dayle of Concord, Lee Blossom of Boston, Lynn Carrigan and her husband, Danny of Tioga, Texas, Kyle Blossom and his wife, Joan of Melrose, Mass. and Tracy Hicks and her husband, Steve of Deerfield. She is also survived by her 11 precious grandchildren Ryan Blossom, Trent Blossom, Casey Blossom, Emily Blossom, Kyle Carrigan, Danielle Carrigan Johnson, Jessica Carrigan Stapp, Troy Carrigan, Jack Hicks, Brad Hicks and Kathryn Blossom; and three great-grandchildren, Aurora Carrigan, Sawyer Carrigan and Carrigan Johnson. Jean leaves two beloved brothers, Joseph LaChance of Greenfield, Mass. and Dan LaChance of Highlands Ranch, Colo.
A celebration of Jean's life will be held Saturday, May 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Church, 21 Centre St, Concord.

The Blossom family is forever indebted to the caring angels at the VNA, John H. Whittaker Place and Harris Hill Nursing home in Concord who made Jean's later years comfortable with their exemplary care. Donations may be made in memory of Jean to the Concord Regional Visiting Nurses Association.
