O'Neill Funeral Home - Cumberland Obituary

Jean Cassetta, age 85 of Providence, RI, formerly of Smithfield, RI, died peacefully on April 23, 2020. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Anthony (Tony) Cassetta, of 62 years. Born in Amsterdam, NY. She was the daughter of Nancy (Donato) and Matthew LaTorre.

Jean graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School and began her career as a secretary at Mohasco in Amsterdam, NY, where she met her husband, Tony. She later worked as a medical secretary and office manager at various medical practices.

Nothing made Jean happier than spending time with her family, especially the annual beach vacations, where she created everlasting memories with her grandchildren. She was the ultimate hostess – bringing together the extended family for holidays and any other occasion, always opening her home to all. She was a loving and caring wife who, after six decades of marriage, continued to laugh the hardest at Tony’s jokes.

Jean will always be remembered for her incredibly warm heart, beautiful smile and selfless soul.

She was a devoted mother, who will be sorely missed by her adoring children, Frank (Kathleen) Cassetta, Liverpool, NY, Patricia (Charles) Cassetta-Girard, Cumberland, RI, and Lisa (William Case) Cassetta, Finchville, KY; six grandchildren, Kayleigh (Nicholas) Terranova, Kelsey Cassetta, Joshua (Licia) Girard, Rachel Girard, Chelsea Case and Morgan Case; two great grandchildren, Nicholas Terranova and Giada Girard. She is also survived by sister-in-law Regina Cassetta and brothers-in-law Nicholas Serrani and Nicholas (Judy) Cassetta; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jean was pre-deceased by her brothers, Albert LaTorre and Donald LaTorre, and sister Diana Peyton.

Live streaming of Jean's private funeral will be available on Sunday, April 26th at appoximately 1 PM. Visit the funeral home website for the service. A Private Burial will be held in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Amsterdam, New York.

Donations may be made in Jean’s memory to Alzheimer’s Association, 245 Waterman St #306, Providence, RI 02906, or Hope Hospice, 1085 N Main St, Providence, RI 02904.

Not sure what to say?

We were so saddened to hear of Jeans passing. We knew her from Wingate where she and our mom became close friends. As we visited often, we came to care very much for Jean. May she Rest In Peace.

Marie and I extend our sympathy to Jeans entire family. When we moved to Pheasant Ridge in 2000, Jean and Tony made us feel welcomed and accepted. They were excellent neighbors and friends. We miss both Tony and Jean. May they Rest In Peace.

To the entire Cassetta family I send my love and prayers to each one of you. I watched your mothers service and I found it to be very touching. My heart Breaks for you that you cannot be together at this time, However, I find joy in knowing that your mom is now at peace and has joined your father in heaven.

I am going to miss my sister-in-law so very much. May her soul through the mercy of God rest in peace. My sympathy to Frank, Patty and Lisa and their families.
Love, Regina (Aunt Jean)
