Not sure what to say?

Jean Hooker was an inspiration to many with her endless energy and creative spirit. I have many fond memories of my time working with her as an graduate assistant at USA, the Tour de Force organization, and Education For Democracy in Czechoslovakia. We have lost a great friend and educator. Nick Baggett

There will be only one Jean, Stara Mrkva, you will be forever loved by so many whose lives you have changed. Because of you we know better....

As I read through the comments that others have made about Mrs. Hooker, I had flash backs to my days at USA. I smile as realize that, I have been working in recreation for more than 40 years and am still using many of the lifelong skills that I gained because Mrs. Hooker insisted that I get out of my comfort zone. She is still making a difference.

RIP Dear Jean, I will never forget

Jean, nikdy na Teba nezabudnem, odpocivaj v pokoji. Je mi to strasne luto. Elena

Jean, there is not a day that I don't think about you. I miss you!

I learned through Len Fries of Jean's death and felt a chapter in my life closed then, too. In Hattiesburg, Jean introduced me to Alex Currie, Jr., who became my first husband for about 14 years. We had 3 daughters: Helen Husband (b. 1961), Susan Currie (b. 1963), and Millibeth Currie (b. 1967). We were divorced in 1976. I recd my PhD. from USM (1976). I lived in Portales with the girls while teaching at Eastern NMUniv. Retiring 1995, I had remarried (Dick Fawcett, PhD....

Jean was a good friend at Bunker Hill Naval Air Base-she was the supervisor of the flight scheduling board for students and instructors--of which I was one. She was a spirited, helpful, friendly, dedicated lady and frankly, like everyone else loved her. A mutual friend Penny Stewart lives in the facility for old folks where I live in Mt. Pleasant, SC and she was very interested in finding our about Jean. This is not was she nor I wanted to have happen. I am 92 years old now--and still remember...

I arrived in Mobile in summer 1981 with Jean Hooker's name and tel # and the directive to contact her if I needed a good friend! Jean invited me to volunteer in the HPELS department that fall. I also was "guest speaker" for her classes on many occasions. In return, she always invited me to "The Big Coffee" as her guest. I still have a coffee mug from one of those years. Breakfast at her house was always special -- especially crepe suizettes! RIP, Jean, you deserve a long rest!
