Jean Kies Obituary

Jean P. Kies, 94, of McConnellsburg, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2012. Born September 25, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Robert D. and Eleanor (Cross) Porter. Jean was a 1936 graduate of Chambersburg High School and a 1940 graduate of Penn State where she earned her degree in teaching. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. Jean was a member of the Women's Club of McConnellsburg, the PTA, Great Cove Golf Club, Medical Center Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, and Zeta Tau Alpha. Along with her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband, Harold P. Kies, whom she married in 1941. Surviving are her son, Alan D. Kies and wife Sandy; son, William P. Kies and wife Jane; daughter, Cindy Luongo and husband Paul; daughter, Jennifer Lowman and husband Bill; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Kay McBeath; and brother, Robert S. Porter. A graveside service will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Fulton County Library, 227 N. 1st St., McConnellsburg, PA 17233. Arrangements by Auer Cremation Services of PA, Inc.
